You must share some strange connection with her if her pain is translated to you.

Must be some unexplained scientific phenomenon.

I feel pain in my hair every time Dementieva hits a serve.

At least Dementieva's serve has improved (wish it had improved in 2004). I wish I could say the same for Safina as there are times I think Safina is better off serving under-handed on 2nd serves.

Anyone got a live stream of Kuznetsova's match?

Urzala is killing Kuzy so far.....

EDIT: Ula won. Good win for her, but this further confirms Kuzy is a mess.

I updated the list. Took off some names I consider to be washouts, updated comments on some.

Jankovic walks in to a bar and the bar tender says: "Why the long face?"

IW update for our girls 3-15-09:

Chakvetadze is still a mess, though Peer can be a good player at times.

Safina's winning ugly, but winning.

Zvonareva is on top of her game in 2009.

Vaidisova at least picked up a couple of wins.

Okay, after IW:
  • Zvonareva finally proved she can win a big event (18-2 so far, 2 titles including Indian Wells), so she's off the list for now.
  • Ivanovic has really improved her play at the net and is moving better. She stays on list as she showed limited abilities to change her game up.
  • Safina has been playing rather inconsistent and her serve is still a mess. She wants to play more aggressively but she needs to play smart and within her means. Otherwise she'll end up like Kuznetsova. 0 titles so far.
  • Dementieva lost early, but is 21-4 overall with 2 titles so far.
  • Jankovic blew a chance to gain ground on Safina. Still adjusting to the off-season conditioning. Also with 0 titles so far.
  • Kuznetsova looks like she'll fall out of the top 10 this year. Azarenka, Wozniacki, Cornet, Radwanska look to bump her down. Maybe even Bartoli as well...

Miami has not been kind to our beloved girls on the list. Except for one: Kuznetsova... Yeah, I'm still scratching my head on that one. She's got a tough opponent to face and while the odds are against her, this Kuzy might surprise us... for better or worse.

Well, one of our WW girls will become to the new #1 after Charleston.

One guy in another forum mentioned that because Charleston is awarding fewer points than last year coupled with Serena's loss at Marbella assures that Dinara Safina will be the new #1 on April 13.

On one hand I'm happy she "achieved" this rank, though she'll have gotten this due to a technicality. She can thank the WTA for restructuring the tiered events (now Premier and International) more than she can for her play in 2009.

I'm a Safina fan but to be honest she does not deserve the #1 rank. At least she's more deserving than when Jankovic got #1 for one week last August.

Add Serena to this list. She was destroyed by Azarenka in Miami final and just lost to #95 ranked Klara Zakopalova 4-6 6-3 1-6.

Also her AO title was pure lack and protectionism from organizers. Quite undeserved. She was not playing good at all there.

How is she more deserving than first Jankovic #1? They are both quite undeserved.

OTOH Jankovic's second #1 in October/November was quite deserving, but she was still bashed then all over the place for her #1. I am waiting to see same kind of bashing for Safina as well.

I'm no Serena fan, but even Serena deserves a pass this time. She was visibly injured in both of those matches. Serena was actually trying to keep #1 even though she says it's not important to her and made a cheap remark about Safina for possibly getting #1. Had the WTA not reduced the amount of points for Charleston she wouldn't have played Marbella. If anything, the loss was a good thing for her to heal her thigh injury.

Serena did not play that well at the AO, especially against Azarenka and Kuznetsova. She was lucky Dementieva's serve went down the drain and that Safina's whole game went to hell. Still, Serena can and does win both pretty and ugly. I don't like Serena's game, her penchant for withdrawing from tournaments at the last minute, her excuses when she loses, etc. But until someone proves otherwise she's the best player on the tour.
