Why do so many people use overgrips?

Is the sole purpose of people using overgrip to increase handle size? or is their other reasons?

I use overgrips to grip the handle better. I sweat very heavily, and the overgrip helps me grip the handle better.

And overgrips are cheaper to maintain... they usually come in 3 a pack so you can just change the overgrips and not have to pay $7+ for replace the grip

Overgrips are much softer and tackier than replacement grips.

overgrips are kind of a gimmick what you spend on them you could buy a nice fairway or neuman "greenie" grip. i have gone back to gauze simply because it can be repalcesd on the spot no probs. and it gets better as you use it. I have had my fill paying for grips that "bleak" out during a match if it practice forget about it. either a fairway or sticky gauze .

Also, some people don't like tacky grips and besides leather, there are virtually no absorbent replacement grips available. If you use those regular grips that come with the racket during the summer, the racket will most likely slip out of your hand.

The standard grips on all the racquets I have played with tend to slip out of my hand. Plus as others have said, overgrips are far more tacky and absorb sweat better.

I usually just don't like the factory grip on the rackets or the grip is getting worn.

I use overgrips cause I'm not a 4 3/8 and I'm not a 4/12 either..... but between the two so basically for size to answer your question, in my situation . But some people probably use overgrips out of personal preference, etc.

I use it because I usually don't like the texture of the factor grip. And also it's too rough on my hands to have no overgrip, with overgrip, it adds cushion.

I also use it to match the color of my racquet. For instance I have the Babolat Pure Drive Team + so I use Gamma Overgrip 2 (Blue) to match my stick.

I use the Wilson Pro Overgrips to cut down on blisters. Most grips seemed to be designed for people with sweaty hands, but my hands stay pretty dry. There's a downside to using overgrips though if your handle shape doesn't have those nice wide bevels. Overgrips make it harder to feel them.

I use Wilson Pro x 2 double up to make it much softer.. I got a smaller grip for that purpose.

Need to have the racquet grip as tacky as possible. One of my instructors @ the club I teach @ suggested to me once NOT to remove the original plastic wrap on the racquet handle, & then simply put an overgrip on top of that. It keeps the original grip intact, too often had I completely ruined the original grip & that made it much more difficult to put an overgrip on top. Try it next time you buy a new racquet & see if it makes a difference.

How would you ruin a grip by taking the plastic off of it and putting an overgrip on top? It just doesn't compute. I'd think if you notice, you'd probably see sweat spots on your replacement grip from sweat that went through the small perforated holes of the cellophane wrapping and couldn't escape. Nasty.

For me, it just feels right after wrapping a Tourna Grip over a leather grip and letting it sit overnight. I use Tourna Grip because it is extremely absorbant and the handle doesn't slip with it wrapped.

Easy: More often then not, when removing an overgrip from the original grip, the overgrip takes part of the original grip with it. This ruins the original grip. Time & again my students, fellow instructors & players are faced with this situation & it makes it very difficult to apply an overgrip smoothly. I don't have an problem with my hands or handle sweating profusely when I play, so the so-called sweat spots you refer to are not a problem.

In almost ten years of using overgrips, I've never had a problem with an overgrip taking part of the replacement grip with it . . .

Well aren't you special then. I know I'm not unique in this, perhaps on this board I am, but @ the clubs I play & teach @, it's quite common.

I've never seen whole clubs do this.

meh never happened to me.. thats all i can tell u.. my replacement grips still perfect
