Default Fox ATP Ltd Edition WB-215

One of these followed me home today.

I searched on Fox and found some WB-215 threads but nothing specific on this frame. It weighs 339 grams (12 oz), has a 18mm beam and is head light. Says "Graphite Kevlar Composite" and "Designed in the USA" on one side of the bridge and "Designed exclusively for the Association of Tennis Professionals by Warren Bosworth" on the other side. Has shiny black base coat with copper colored graphics. I laid my Yonex RDS 001 Mid on top and the heads are essentially the same size so I'm guessing its a 90 head. Interestingly it has the same head shape and heaxagonal beam profile as the Yonex. One last thing - Main strings 1-4 pass through the bridge and are threaded through the throat all the way to the handle.

Can anybody add dates and other history about it?

Thanks

This is somewhat of a coincidence, I just picked this one up off Cragislist today. This is the ATP Ceramic Pro WB-215, pictured next to my ATP Ceramic Pro WB-210. I would think your version is fairly rare, as I have not seen one before.

For Fox Fans, here's my other Fox frame, a never used ATP Red Fox composite, I don't really know anything about this one...

That Red Fox is injection molded, if I'm not mistaken - at any rate, it's grommetless. I have one myself, along with a Fox ATP - the big one, with the seemingly impossible string set up - no visible way in to string it!

Your WB-215 looks identical to the one I found in regards to shape. Looks like Fox must have made several variations of the same mold using different materials/layups. Wilson did that with the PS 85 mold. I have a Wilson Ceramic 85, Jack Kramer Staff, PS 85 and Graphite Matrix that are identical in size and shape, but are all made of different material mixes.

Here is the PS 85 and the variations I just mentioned

Each has a slightly different material formulation leading to different weights and, I'm sure, stiffness.

Fox also made a boron version of the WB-210 graphite model Gilbert used eg. no grommets ; Gilbert actually used this frame near his end of his using Fox rackets. I bought 3 of them in 1991 for 19.00 a piece. played very nicely !

Unfortunately, the Matrix (or the Pro Select) in your photo is not from the same mold as the other 3. It's close but not the same.

The ATP Limited I have does have grommets. Were grommets an option on the WB-215 line?

Thanks. I went back and looked at it and it is slightly different.

the racket was gray and no grommets just like the frame Gilbert used. a SOLID frame and had nice leather grips. I was surprised when I saw them because I considered myself "up" on rackets.
