I'm waiting for the day when Chrysler can make a Camry or Chevrolet can make an Accord. It doesn't matter to me where it's made as long as it live a long healthy life

The reason is people think foreign cars are more prestigious and they have the pre-conceived notion that foreign cars are better than American cars which is false. I own an American car that I've had for 11 years and it's the most reliable car I have ever owned and that includes many imported cars. It's so much less expensive to own than when I had German and Japanese cars.

Not everyone wants to buy their clothes on the Internet. Most people prefer to buy their clothes at Wal-Mart, Target, or at their local mall because it's much more convenient and cheaper on sale, and they can try stuff on before buying. There are more American car dealers than there are foreign car dealers so people are going out of their way to buy foreign cars despite being less convenient and more expensive for them.

Well it was and it was Ford that turned their quality around. In fact, their website still only mentions being owned by Ford: http://www.jaguarusa.com/us/en/_footer1/company.htm

Ronaldo (you in the UK, yes?):
You say pough-tah-toe and I say potato
You say Jag-euw-are and I say Jag-war

Ronaldo, Breakpoint: Ford owned Jaguar for many years; they outbid GM and some Japansese companies in the late '80's ('89?). Ford promised Jaguar to sustain some of the autonomy Jag enjoyed under British Leyland but Ford did address a number of problematic areas--to the eventual benefit of Jaguar. Say what you want about Ford, but they may've kept Jaguar from going under given the shape Jaguar was at the time of takeover. For example, after Ford took over Jaguar, their XJ-series sedan was suddenly able to go from one side of a parking lot to the other without a blinking "fuse" light coming on; in short, Jaguar's electronics were an absolute horror show. Ford's "Philco" audio division served to address this by serving, for starters, as a 'parts supplier' resource (note my 'supplier' comment above respective to the new owner--Tata).
I own both late model Range Rovers (and a Mercedes Benz) ...blah, blah, blah...who cares?.... and have a dear friend from "school/football days" who's the gen.mgr. for several Land Rover dealerships 'round these parts and he gives me some 'inside dope' as to what's going on with LR (he even 'comps' me "nitro" in my tires haha). Anyway, as quoted above, Tata Moters Ltd. of India bought JLR (Jaguar-Land Rover Group) within the past year.

Who knows; maybe some day prospective buyers'll walk by a Land Rover showroom window and remark: "nice Tatas"

I wouldn't be surprised that Jaguar was in a state when Ford took over, they were probably still in disarray after the British Leyland period.

Dedans, so deep in the rust belt you cannot sand-blast me outtahere. Just recalled the Lincoln LS and Jaguar were the same under differing bodies. Believe Ford and Volvo shared some internals on the Taurus X wagon. Sweet if Ford imported their EuroMondial/Focus.

I pronounce it with a slight 'r' sound at the end.

I think the easiest way to avoid it is to call it 'Jag'

British Leyland was even worse than the U.S. Auto industry if that was even possible.

Not only does Ford use the Volvo S80 platform for the Taurus x wagon Ford also uses the S80 platform for the Taurus sedan, Lincoln MK S, and Mercury Sable.

Ford also uses the second generation Focus platform for the Mazda 3 (2004-2009) and Volvo S40, V50, and C30.

Ford had a controlling interest in Mazda since the late 70's. In November 2008 Ford sold 20% of it's controlling interest in Mazda for $540 million. Ford still retains 13% of Mazda. Ford uses the Mazda 6 platform on the Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln MK Z.

Ford is also shopping Volvo around in a effort to raise cash.
http://www.leftlanenews.com/ford-beg...vo-buyers.html

I think Ford has the best chance to turn things around. Ford should bring over to the U.S. the Mondeo, Second generation Focus especially in RS trim to compete with the hot Japanese front drive cars like the Lancer, Impreza, and Civic, and Ford should bring over the to the U.S. the Ford Fiesta.

The UK site also doesn't mention being owned by Tata.

Again, I don't disagree with your observations. I would add that the "notion" that US made cars are of poor quality didn't happen by accident. A lot of folks had a lot of bad outcomes buying them for quite some time, and many still do.

I also agree that there is more to buying clothes than the country of origin, say convenience, as you mentioned. In fact, that's my main point, there's more to making purchases than the country where the product was made, which brings us back to cars.
