Yes we went 1-2 in the tournament this weekend. I did not exactly have a great weekend - in fact I lost all three matches played. First match on Friday, I played #1 singles hoping to match up against the older player. He killed me 2 and 1. Next I played #1 doubles and lost 3, 5. Yesterday I played #2 singles and lost in the 3rd set tie breaker 10-7. Most teams had very young singles players 19-23. Kid I played yesterday was 19. Seniors - here I come.

I was down in the Keys all last week and only got to hit on a backboard for a couple of hours, but still felt ready. I played OK yesterday and had chances to win.

It is always tough to play new people when you know nothing about their game.

They already say my racquet and strings are old school. I guess I could go back to wood. Any body have a Jack Kramer sitting in a racquet press?

You'll be the king of the 50s when you start playing.

only thing is that most seniors i'm seeing are using thick beamed oversized racquets. think you'll be at a disadvantage with the JK woodie.

Have you strung rackets before? If not, but a cheap synthetic gut to practice with.

I'm scheduled to play the next two days after work. I have a set of old Gamma poly I could give you. Other than that, pretty much every other string I own I intend to use.

It might take some digging, but I'll try and remember to look for it the next few days.

SSgator, I looked up that Miami guy you played on the USTA website. He had a lot of wins where his opponents won 4 games or less. Can you say sandbagger?

I also went back through his record. I think he only lost 1 match all year. He played two matches at the state tournament - me and another guy - he killed both of us.

I'm telling you - when we were warming up, I thought I was going to win. He didnt seem to have anything that was going to hurt me. His serve was pretty good but groundies just appeared ok. I think he is one of those guys that after he beats you - you ask - how did that just happen. Shawn says he is better than he looks. I bet he gets bumped tp 5.0

Look at the kid I played in the second match - many open tournaments.

Not *****ing, just an experience you learn from. To win you need top, young singles players at the very top of the 4.5 division.

I looked at the Seniors and they only play 3 lines of doubles. I still like playing singles. I need to improve my doubles game.
