what grit!?

what grit sandpaper should i use to rough the inside of my clamps? I work with wood so i have a ton.

No No No! There a good chance you'll sand them unevenly. See if you can get to an autobody shop and have them "glass bead" the tips of the clamps. This will do the trick and give the clamp texture without losing any of the mating surface.

Best to just clean them with toothbrush and alcohol.

ats sports, www.atssports.com, sells a clamp cleaning stone. It's made of the same material as a knife sharpening stone. It will clean the clamps and recondition the surface without the danger of it being uneven as long as you are careful to keep it parallel to the teeth.

Clamp refurb is part of the warranty service that Laserfibre offers. Once every three years - you can send your clamps back for a tune up. I believe the warranty is transferable.

I recently had my clamps exchanged by Tim at Laserfibre. He can explain the process better than I. He sends you clamps and you send yours back. I have been in Heaven since and my machine is stringing better than the day I first received it.

Also if you string a lot of string containing polyurethane, Tim suggested using acetone (nail polish remover) instead of alcohol. It is a better solvent for removing polyurethane.

CAUTION: If you use diamond dust clamps this could dissolve the bonding agent used to attach the diamond dust. Check with your stringing machine company before using acetone to see whether it is safe or not. No problem with Laserfibre clamps.

really i've heard actone products were bad for machines?

did you have to pay for exchanging you clamps? or was it under warranty?

I agree with Albert. A good swabbing with alcohol and a toothbrush and my Bab clamps are like new. I do mine quite often (always before a gut job). Keeps the chance of a big build up to a minimum.
