Default TournaGrip Fiasco

I see a tremendous amount of pros using this grip. Its easily distinguishable. Do all of these players have sponsorship with unique sports? Most of the majority of players use tournagrip. Its unreal to see such a company dominate in the overgrip department. Its also hard for me to see a company like Gamma not catch up on tour with their overgrips because they have the best product out there.

It use to be crazier in 1990's early to 2000's. Everyone used tourna grip. These days lot of guys are using white grips, either by wilson, yonex, or babolat.

I'm not sure how many have an endorsement, but a lot of the current pros started playing in the early 90s, when Tourna was the only game in town for overgrips, so they all got used to Tournagrip. As time goes on you see more of the younger players using Wilson pro and so on. I agree about Gamma, but I guess other than Bepa and Donald Young they don't have a lot of pro players using their stuff for some reason. I think Gamma Supreme is one of the best overgrips out there for sure.

Gamma grips are horrible, please don't compare the two. I also saw an article of about 7 or 8 up and coming juniors recently. EVERY single one of them were using Tourna Grip....

Pro athletes sweat. A lot. Hence the Tournagrip.

That's a matter of opinion. The Gamma Supreme plays great! Tournagrip is pretty much an all-purpose grip but my gripe with it is that it, for me, it's the equivalent of playing with paper. Even wet, it tends to tear easily.

Also, look at the cost of Tournagrip versus othe brands. In the long scheme of wrapping racquets, it's cheaper to use Tournagrip than Wilson, Yonex, Gamma, Head, etc.

There are people who have dry hands and people who have sweaty hands, the ones that have dry hands want tacky overgrips, the others want absorbent overgrips. For some odd reason, most overgrip companies choose to make tacky overgrips so they all compete in this niche market, leaving the whole big absorbent overgrip market free for Tournagrip.

Very, very well put. As a highly-ranked junior who trains 6-8 hours a day at Evert, I (and everyone else there) simply will not use anything else.

I'd like to suggest that the masses don't have sweaty hands and this is why tacky grips sell better - therefore TG is in the niche market. As Nanshiki said, pros sweat a lot so TournaGrip is perfect for them but for us mere mortals the Wilson Pro Overgrip etc etc is the better bet.

Tourna-Grip is hardly a fiasco. It's a product that works well for what it does. When a product does what it is supposed to do it tends to have a long life of consumer usage. People who sweat a lot understand the that tacky grips and wet hands don't go very well together. The wetness causes the skin to soften and the tackiness of an over-grip just pulls at the skin causing blisters. I've just gotten done trying out SuperGrap and I will never use that over-grip again. Wilson pro, at least the old style, works alright until I get too sweaty. I hate that TournaGrip isn't that durable but the stuff just plain works for heavy sweaters..

I don't get it. Tournagrip is horrible. It's not real "grippy" which is it's purpose. To make matters worse it peels apart after a couple of plays. The stuff is horrible. Just about any other brand of overgrip is far superior.

I guess the only reason people use it is because of the pro exposure so I guess they know what they are doing in the marketing department.

Tournagrip is fabulous stuff. I'll use it forever. It seems to me to do a better job than its competitors in soaking up sweat.

It's not supposed to be real "grippy". It's supposed to allow an unhindered grip which it does very well. As I said in my previous post, sweat and "grippy" is usually not a good combination. Sweat hinders a grip, and more importantly I think, it hinders playing as play time increases due to the formation of blisters from soft, wet skin.
