You can't bullschit a bullschitter Mitchell.
Before you accuse people of being affiliated with any company please get your facts straight. The only tie I have to Genesis is that they sent me a free sample of the Spin X which IMO was mediocre at best. I do not use or endorse their product and do not appreciate someone trying to slander my user name on TW.

statetennis and murray fan1 are legit. It's the other two that are the big culprits.

I am up front of who I am; my username and website are on my profile for all to see. Anyone reading my posts can see that and decide for themselves.

It's when one says that they are a tennis alum for a highly-regarded school, when they likely never even went to that school.

All they do is plug there products non-stop, while bashing anything they don't sell. That's why stanford is making hundred of posts today trying to save face and actually mention good things about other brands. Just look at the previous posts of both of these two. You don't need to be a genius to realize it.

I've tried this string. (17 gauge)

It is absolutely an excellent string. It feels somewhere between Lux Big Banger Alu Power, and Big Ace.

As the OP stated, it is very easy to string, and pockets the ball very well. Nice feed back to the hand (not too harsh or mushy). Generates good pop, spin, and control.

For the price, you can't go wrong. I'll most likely be switching to this string, once my other poly runs out.

How much does it cost per set? Any place to get free samples?

Default First Impression Black Magic

I'm a 4.0 player and I play whenever I can wheather permitting in Northern California. I'm not affiliated with any commercial tennis product.

I strung a Prince Black with Genesis Black Magic (BM) at 54', which is fairly loose for that racquet) and although I rarely comment on products because most are a matter of taste, I thought this string deserved some feedback.

I've used pure and hybrid combinations of Babolat Gut, Luxilon original, ALU Power, Rough, NXT, synthetic gut, Sonic Pro, and a host of others. Black Magic is vastly different than any string I've experienced. So different, it takes a while to interpret what is really going on.

Black Magic exhibits a very soft feel that subtracts only slightly from the power dimension and adds control. That's a feat. It even feels softer than natural gut IMO and it's a lot easier on the arm than any Poly I've tried. When I tried BM for the first time, the guy I was playing with said, "Wow, I like the way that sounds". And I was thinking, yeah, I think I like the way this feels.

If you swing slowly you get good feel, if you swing faster you naturally generate power because of that pocketing and poly rebound - but you don't lose control.

It's so different, it takes some getting used to in order to really appreciate it.

Nice change Genesis!

^^LOL, nice disclaimer and I agree, you gotta be careful nowadays with distributors pimping their product.

I love the review and have to agree. I hit today with BM for the first time. I split my time between BM in one stick and SpinX in the other. Both in 16g, the feel was what impressed me, closely followed by the spin and power. These 2 are the first two strings who I feel give PL2 a run for the money for less bucks.

I'm interested in how they hold tension but based on my first experience, they're both great: so far I would give the slight edge to silver SpinX. I played with them at 56/56 in my Radical Pro.

PED-

Wait until the BM begins to break in!!! It's hits stride after about 1-1.5 hours of play. I played a hybrid with BM mains and Prince Recoil crosses. The Recoil really pocketed the ball and complemented the BM. I had the BM at 56 and the Recoil at 60. Felt like the recoil could have handled 63-64.

Nice!!! I like enough already! I really am pleasantly surprised with this string. I was afraid that it was a lot of hype but so far so good.

I dropped my tension from 60. The BM probably easily could have handled it but I wanted to get a higher arcing ball and really play to the strengths of the Rad and its working so far. I almost feel like the spin X is even a bit softer.

I had concept pure in before and this is a good deal better to me. I didn't dislike the Pure but I may have gone too high with the 60/58 tension. It didn't really grip the ball and didn't really have the explosiveness I was looking for like a pl2. Not a bad string by any means but on the basis of my early experience on the genesis, I like it much better.

Orion, I think I just hit that period where the BM takes to another level. It has loosened up a bit but not losing any control and it's putting some nice hurt on the ball. It has every bit of the elasticity of PL2; I'm really enjoying it so far.

BTW, it's 65 here today and when it's this warm consistently, I think I'll edge the tension up to 58/56 to 60/58 for mid summer.

PED, you are liking the BM? The last set I recently tried felt like it didn't have nearly the spin of some of the more expensive polys that you know about...

Maybe I just needed to give it more time?

I just strung my racket with Genesis Black Magic. It feels wow...
I've got a free set from one of my players and decided to see how it's plays.
I'm amazed with durability of it even I'm using on open string pattern. Nice surprised. Maybe be a little stiffer in the beginning. Overall it is a nice feeling and power. Great product.

This is a holy grail of strings for me. It's awesome! Not too harsh, very playable, great tension maintenance and incredible price. Seriously what is not to like?

I did drop my tension from 62 down to 60 and I just love this stuff. I've been using it for just over 2 months now.

For comparison sake, the past couple of years I had used/tried the following polys: Pacific Polyforce (also excellent), Klip K-Boom, TF Blackcode & Pro Hurricane Tour. To me Black Magic is the best of the bunch.

I tried the Spin X and was not as wild about it.

I'm a 4.5 player & used the string on both my MG Rad Pro and a PST GT.

Does anybody else feel that after break in this string is useless and dull?

^^I feel the opposite. After about an hour of drilling, the string breaks in very nicely.

Hi Drak,

what tension range would you recommend in a flexible mid size frame?
I had long ago a frame strung with BM and I love it. I bought a reel couple of weeks ago and I'm about to string the first frame but have no clue about tension.
Usually I start any poly at 52 but I read this one is relatively soft!
thanks

^^frido, I would start at that tension. From there you will be able to gauge if you need to go up or down in tension.

Whenever I switch strings, I always string it at the same tension I've been stringing at. It rules out many "what if" questions.

Anyway, I strung at a very large tournament this weekend, and the range for this string was between low 50's to 60's.
