Hi all tennis loving people.
The tradegy of Seles' getting stabbed was one of the most horrifying accidents in tennis history IMO. What if she was wearing a Kevlar Tennis shirt (no, still it would have hurt her mental part. The wound itself wasn't really fatal was it?). What if she tanked and didn't go to Hanover (went to Paris for shopping instead) at all? What would be your senario of 90s? Lindsay? Hingis? Williams? Belgians? Who'd have been her ultimate match? Just curious. Thanks. |

She would have probably lost the match if she was wearing a Kevlar vest.

Kelvar would not stop a knife thrust-it's designed to destabilize and divert the flight of a bullet.

OK, so what if she had been wearing a chain mail undershirt for that match?

Still no good, because chain mail was designed to stop slashing and chopping type weapons and arrows (which don't always fly straight). It would have had to be PLATE ARMOR or a ceramic vest. However, a security guard using a .45 S&W to blow the lunatic away before he came within a few feet of Monica would have been even more effective.

Again, Alan-professional, your irony button needs adjusting...maybe there should be an emoticon denoting irony and sarcasm-but I could never use an emoticon-against my principles.

Monica's ultimate match? First Venus, then Serena. Hingis' reign probably would not have happened had Seles not been stabbed. Seles was dominating Steffi, and had every prospect of winning until the next "great" player challenged her. I have a lot of respect for Hingis, but I don't think she would have beaten Seles if Monica was mentally and physically healthy. Today, Serena would be knocking at Monica's door, but Seles would still be considered the goat if the stabbing never took place. It was a tragedy.
