Default slice backhand

wanted, some opinions from players who are knowledgeable and who have been around the block. Is it a must to set the wrist (also known as the L position) on the slice backhand or is it an option. Seems like Fed sets his wrist on both the slice and topspin BH. Second question Is it a must to keep your racquet and forearm at a 90 degree angle on your forward swing. I would think if you maintain the right angle between forearm and racquet it would eliminate alot of variables. Thanks a bunch.

It is NOT a must do....
However, if you want to hit both top and slice with pace, penetration, consistency, accuracy, and power, you'd better try it.
Or you can limp wrist it all the way to 3.0 levels.

Yes to both questions. The questions are related. If you set the wrist as you describe it, it would make about a 90 degree angle with the forearm. It would be very difficult to drive either a slice/1hbh without the position of the wrist that you describe. I recall when I was first trying out the slice backhand that it looked like a "ping-pong" swing with all the wrist action.
