I'm thinking of getting a KlipperMate, I have some questions...

I thinking I'm going to buy a KlipperMate stringing machine. I have a Liquidmetal Radical MP, Ti Radical OS, and a Dunlop 200G. Will I have any problems stringing either of these racquets? I've never strung a racquet before, will it be fairly easy and just take time? I've heard the Klippermate can distort frames, do you think it will distort any of these frames? Also, are there any good sites with videos on how to string with the KlipperMate (or stringing machines like it)? Thank you!

I have strung on a KlipperMate for over four years. I have never damaged a racquet or had any problems. I personally have customized Ti Radical OS racquets and there are no issues with stringing them on a Klipper. I have heard all about this distortion. My frames lose about 1/16 – 1/8 of an inch in length. When you compare where the difference occurs, it is about the 1:30 and 10:30 position on the frame. It flexes a very small amount which causes the frame to get just a little shorter. Personally I do not see this as problem. Some technical folks may have issues though. Others say they do not see any change in the racquet shape. IMO it is one fine machine for the price. Every time I have contacted their support, they have been very helpful and respond quickly. If you have any concerns with this issue, contact them. I have strung “player” and “power” type racquets. Not sure about the supper over sized Weed or V style Ti S7 Head racquet. If you are going to string those types, contact Klipper to see if that is possible.

After you string a few racquets, you will get the feel for the slack needed to get the drop weight horizontal. I have strung Natural Gut all the way down to the cheapest nylon with no problems.

I use a Klippermate, but I have to say that I've seen and heard of people fumbling the ball with this stringer. It works great for me because I am not anal-retentive (like some on these boards

) and am fairly deft with my hands. If you have the money and are "all-thumbs" you might consider one of the LaserFibre drop-weights that have a far more sophisticated and easier-to-use string gripping technology. That said, the $135 for the Klipper is easily returned in 3/4 months whereas $500 for the LaserFibre is a bigger investment.

Speedwise, I can string my Prince Bandit in about 30min without hurrying. I've strung as fast as 20min uncomfortably racing like the wind. It took me 5 racquets to get up to speed finally mastering weaving and fast tie-offs using a lot of tips from these message boards.

As far as safety goes, I've used the Klipper for 4 years and never cracked or noticebly distorted a frame. The 2-point mounting works just fine.

Yeah, I've never had any issues with mine, never any problems with distortion, and it works well. I think there are some nice features on some of the more expensive machines, but they are mainly useful for people who are stringing a lot. They basically make the job speedier.

Having said that, I recently upgraded, and will be selling my Klippermate. Let me know if you're interested.

I've strung on a Klippermate and found that it is more difficult to lock down the bases on the upright support posts than on other machines. They tend to tilt inward when the string is pulled if you aren't extra careful. The tension head is also harder to use than on a machine with a ratcheting tension head. My recommendation would be to look at the Gamma X-2, ATS SS II or SP Swing.

I've used the klippermate for over 8 years now and I have yet to distort or damage a racquet. It is a good stringer to learn on, but there are newer stringers that have a more updated ratcheting cam as what Gaines have pointed out. The ratcheting cams can help stringing a little easier and faster.

IMHO, the people that complain about racquet distortions are usually the ones that don't follow stringing instructions and use stringing methods that are not recommended. They also do not properly mount the racquet which causes slippage and DISTORTION.

A good string job depends on the person stringing.
