I was just looking at some serve clips and I saw that pros have very different pronation in flat serves.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiH-t..._embedded#t=37 This is Andy Murray and notice how his arm comes straight down with the wrist snap. Then you look at Roddick. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91IxRV4RDt8 The racquet pronates further outward after the hit and finishes at the side of the body. I noticed Sampras does the same thing forming a V with the elbow. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABB0s2cT75g Why is this?? What are the different results?? |

Murray's technique tends to be simpler than others'. His forehand and backhand are also considerably simpler than those of his contemporaries.
That V shape is the result of high racquet head speed and pronation. You see the same thing in Federer's serve, Djokovic's serve, etc - basically almost all other pros, particularly the big serving ones. I think any of them are better models for serving than Murray. |
