Default What's the difference between 2 prong clamps and 3 prong clamps

...apart from 1 prong!

My exhaustive research on stringing machines has now focused on the clamps, in particular the number of prongs they have. I've noticed that some have 3, others have 4. I have spoken to one manufacturer and he said that it's not a big deal, personal preference. What do others think?

I think the total surface area and the type of surface are what is important. The prongs are the part of the clamp that secures the string when lacing the crosses. The prongs have to go in between the mains to clamp the crosses, so IMO, it's important to have enough surface area and the proper surface type to clamp them securely without crimping them.

So the answer is... it depends.
