Donald Young wins his 15th USTA Gold Ball before his 15th birthday. what makes this win impressive to me, a teaching pro in Chicago who knows the Young family, is that Donald lost when he last played against Daniel Yoo in November. Daniel Yoo spent a year away from the junior circuit and played Satellites while waiting for his U.S. green card which is need for him to play the USTA National events. Daniel Yoo is also 18 years old. Good job DONALD!!!

Yep, he will. He's been on his way for a while now, and the future is definitely getting closer all the time.

I only brought him up in this forum because according to the USTA site, he has already turned pro. His win at the Easter Bowl will give him a couple of main draw wildcards into ATP events this year. That is the way to start a pro career, guaranteed prize money and guaranteed ATP ranking points.
If it is correct that he did turn pro, I am sure he will get even more wildcards than those. I only hope that he is truly mature enough and surrounds himself with the right people that will look out for HIS best interests. If his career is handled properly, he will be great for Tennis. |

I must say this is VERY impressive. I've played with Daniel Yoo before and he's nasty, also a lefty. Pretty sure I only got 1 game off him in a set. He's qualified for some main draw futures, and maybe gotten a point already. Although, as to the guy that said this Easter Bowl Win will get Donald Young some ATP WCs, that's only true if the USTA gives them to him, theres nothing automatic for Easter Bowl. Will they? Only if they have already given Brendan Evans 23 already on the year, too bad USTA can't play fair.

By winning the Easter Bowl, Donald Young has earned a wild card to International Hall of Fame or the Mercedes Benz Cup.

Young won 3-6, 6-4, 6-2....the USTA likes to pave the way for promising juniors. They don't develop, but they give established U.S. junior players wc opportunities. I'm sure the USTA gets lobbied heavily from their agents.

Is he with IMG?
If he is I can imagine him getting a WC to Nasdaq Miami next year. IMG did the same for Gasquet last year. |

Donald just moved to Atlanta and has turned pro. The USTA has changed its rule regarding under 18 year old professionals playing its junior tournaments. It is now in accordance with the ITF rule for under 18 professionals. He is hoping to play some Grade A ITF events and futures for the rest of the year. The USTA has told him that he will probably get a wildcard at least into the qualifying for the US open and maybe the maindraw.
