He wouldn't lose one point. The only reason he has unforced errors is that he knows he's playing other pros. Against amateurs, he wouldn't need to go for his shots and therefore wouldn't make any errors.

The article isn't online but should be in that issue of Tennis mag. IIRC, one of the editors once tried to play a set for real against Mac, he didn't win a point until Mac hit the ball out (probably out of boredom). Mac vs Lendl or Wilander, an equal player of his level on the other side of the net who could put equal and opposing pressure on him, is one thing, Mac vs normal people is quite another. Against that editor, Mac could apparently put the ball anywhere he wanted.

Threads like this are just laughable. Same like questions in the vein of "oh, what if Fed were playing with a wood racquet against you, how many points? What if Fed were playing with a wok, how many points.......... " You just don't recognise the lightyears and lightyears in skill between you and someone like Mac or Fed who are amongst the greatest professonal players ever to have played.

You vs Fed? Never mind winning a point, you will be lucky to hit a second stroke in a rally.
Which doesn't make it really fun at all. That's exactly what I'm talking about. If the goal is to get a point and Federer's goal is to beat me in a golden set. Boy, that would be tough. I'm pretty sure I could manage a point here or there. I wouldn't hit any second serves and I'd try to crack a winner on every single ball that came to my side of the net. But like I said, this doesn't sound like it would be very fun.

LOL, I honestly think I could get points. But like I said in another post if his objective would be to golden set me, it would be tough but I think I could get a point.

This is a Tennis forum. There's quite a difference between folk like us on a Tennis forum, and an editor of some magazine. Because we put so much effort into joining debates here, I'd like to think the majority of us put some effort into the real game, too.

Of course there's alot of difference in skill between us and the likes of mighty Roger, but it doesn't mean we can't hit a ball. I'd like to think those of us who have put hard work into our games can take a few points, if not a game of him.

I've spent many, many hours with aching feet on a tennis court. In all weather.
I guess I could speak for some other individuals here, too. Some of us will obviously exaggerate our skill, but some of us are realists, too.

Actually not a long time ago I had a dream (in my sleep) that I had beaten Federer in a set, 6-0. LOL. I know it's impossible. Should be the other way around. But it was nice to beat him anyway.

I guess I was talking more about having good points against Santoro, Monfils, and Murray. I know you're one of the better players here and I'm not sure how you define "good points," but those guys would hit even top Open guys, the kind who win money tournaments in Southern California, right off the court. It wouldn't be competitive at all.

I don't know about game but like I said some points should be doable. I don't think I have ever in my life witnessed someone winning a golden set from someone. That is a pretty hard thing to pull off. That means 24 points in a row. It's sorta like me going out and playing against a 3.0 player and winning every single point. Is it possible? of course. But something is bound to happen where that person wins a point.

I dunno, I just think those guys tend to massage the ball around the court which would at least give me the opportunity to hit a few balls back and get a rhythm. Actually Monfils has been playing pretty darn aggressive as of late. But it seems like these guys don't really go out there with the mindset of someone like Roger. I mean that guy just doesn't mess around. It just seems like at least with these guys you can at least get into somewhat of a rally.

Except in the '09 US Open final in which Roger was clearly not taking every point as seriously as he usually does and doing some very un-Federer like things out there.

I'd pray to god that my first serves and my FH, running BH are on fire that day(biggest strengths I possess) while he plays poorly.

Maybe I'd win a game if I play great

That's funny cuz I often have a dream about teeing it up in the final round of the Canadian Open with Tiger Woods and beating him for our Nation's highest golf achievement. Problem is though I wake up before the trophy presentation and realize I'm just another 4 handicap dreamer.

I bet you'd sh*t your pants if Fed showed up at your club.

I've seen Open level playing guys ranked just outside 1000 and they couldn't stay in a rally at all. I think it's a bit like boxing or MMA, where two fighters who respect and fear other sort of feel each other out. But against an untrained fighter, they would just charge in and crush skull. Likewise, those guys might play conservatively against other people their level, but against one of us, they could serve and volley, just hit nothing but kick serves, go for winners off every ball, and win without trying.

Anyway, here's Murray practicing.

You are probably right. I'd still rather play these guys than Nadal or Federer.

Since I'm a female, I think the only point I could ever get would be the double fault he'd make when I distracted him by immitating Rafa.
