Yeah, I'm sure both Martina Hingis and Pete Sampras would recommend that to Djokovic.

Fila's gone to the Koreans, Diadora's going elsewhere and, according to their website, Tacchini is now owned by a Hong Kong Chinese businessman with (presumably) a lot of cash 'to relaunch the brand'.

I doubt all of this since everyone has seen the Adidas catalouge and the Falcon line was in it still. Why would he switch once Adidas gave him his own line of shoes and clothing this year????

Yes, but they just dropped a few notches in quality last year.

And now, as the new face of their brand is Djerkovic, I simply buy more Diadora and FILA.

Good luck, Sergi'ho Tacchini.

Very sad. I'm liking the new FILA stuff, though. But maybe I'm just going to have to do without the fine Italian brands I've always loved.

How is Athletic DNA? Under Armor?
Maybe I can find some solid private label stuff.....like whoever makes half this stuff for the big names. Champion/A4/Athletica or something?

Second, how many tennis players will switch from Nike (or whatever brand) to Adidas or run out and buy a ton of Adidas tennis clothes just because of Andy Murray?
Well i dont know how much pull Murray has in terms of sales.. with his on-court charisma, maybe not alot. Adidas made a profit of around 5.3 billion (euro) last year, how much of that owes to sales due to tennis players, i dont know. Im just saying it doesnt make business sense to pay someone that much without considering the ROI

i guess i am in the minority because it doesn't matter to me who owns the brand, so i don't feel anything.

Are you sure their profit was that much? What were their revenues?

Do you have a link?

This could be great news for consumers in that Tacchini might start producing nice tennis clothing again for the American market (compared with the junk they currently sell).

What is the source for Murray getting $5M per year from Adidas? I have a hard time believing he's getting that much for wearing someone's clothes. I mean the guy hasn't even won a slam. If he's getting $5M from Adidas, then what are Roger and Rafa getting from Nike?

not surprising that Adidas decides to let Djokovic go in favour of Murray, if the rumour is indeed true.

Murray would give Adidas much more publicity in UK etc for them to make even more profits compared to Djokovic boosting its sales in Serbia...

OK, now that makes more sense. Adidas only made $642 million Euro in net profit on $10.8 billion Euro in worldwide sales last year. That's about 6% net profit margin, which is more reasonable for their industry.

But paying Murray $5 million a year still doesn't make any sense to me.

Hmmm...both of them play all over the world and have visibility all over the world. I mean, I don't think Federer did any more for sales of Nike in Switzerland than he did for sales of Nike everywhere else in the world.

Well for a pro to move the needle for a Nike or an adidas...it would take a lot for a small uptick in sales.

For a guy like Djokovic to move the needle for a company with incredibly low market share like ST...it's very possibly a smart move on their part, as long as they've got supply lines and distribution channels looking good.

Of course I'm groaning that McEnroe will now have yet another reason to be sympathetic to that littke weasel (ST in common). Puke.

I'm going FILA all of a sudden.

Allez Blake! Go Kimmy!

What's the joke/djoke here?
And I really don't see what Addidas sees in Murray, especially @ $5 mil a year, Djokovic is the more marketable person.

Why? That's ridiculous. It looks like simple, solid apparel. Why are they positioning themselves like that?
