I find a bit strange that Goran is leading the poll by such a huge margin.
The reason is that at the time, players knew that if Goran was on, they really were just guessing where to return the serve. They were helpless in a way. Players like Sampras, Becker were highly nervous about the Goran serve. You don't get that feeling with Roddick. Players don't go on about how hopeless it is to get a service break against him (I know he is tough, but not anywhere as tough as Goran).

Goran, better serve doesn't mean faster

I believe Roddick was serving at a 75% clip on his first serves for the season. Quite impressive considering the pace he brings! However, Goran has that lefty edge.

I still went with Andy.

I would say Goran... it was much more deceptive and arguably more accurate ... Roddick is more about pure power. And the fact that Goran was left handed doesn't hurt either.

I'd take Goran for most situations, but his double faulting bothers me. Roddick's second serve isn't an amazing weapon or anything, but I'll take its consistency any day.

This one is close and I went with Roddick. However IMO no one beats Dr Ivo's serve!

I voted for Goran because not only did he have a great serve, he was lefty which helps him out a ton.

Roddick, though it's certainly close. Roddick has had a better career, of course.

Roddick has a better second serve. But Goran has the better first serve. When it's on at least. Deciding factor was Goran's delivery simply looked better.

Incidentally, I watched the 1997 Dubai final last night between Goran and Thomas Muster, and the rallies in that match were quite brilliant. I've always felt that Goran's groundstrokes and return of serve were very underrated. Thomas made Goran run and run, and then run some more. Thomas talked up Goran in his post-match interview with David Mercer on court, saying he was a potential world number 1 and that he really hoped Goran would achieve his dream of winning Wimbledon.

The next time they met was less than 2 months later on clay in the Davis Cup, where Goran pulled off a hugely surprising 5 set victory, handing Thomas his only singles loss on clay in Davis Cup competition.
