FYI... the WTA does not invest or build up players. Individual national federations (like the USTA) develop players; college programs, or just parents bringing their girls up to play tennis. What the WTA can do, is perhaps change the schedule. Also, both tours have gone through their transition periods. The WTA will get better, theres simply too much money to be won - the competition will definitely get better. And the Belgians are not the only 'good' players, don't forget about the Williams sisters. |

The MONEY to be won is another fact to take under consideration but not here in this posting because it is quite a different subject to discuss and it is a bit off topic here... I think that the ''Belgians'' as you call them are spoiling the broth because they will win all leaving the crumbs to the remainder batch of players and that doesnt help anyone and spoils the possibility of ''equal oportunities for everyone''and does not contribute for an upgrading in the sport... The Williamses are another chapter because they seem to have a different anatomy as the other players...I see them more weightlifting than playing tennis...so I always thought that they were a bit '''off topic'' playing tennis...aliens to the sport... |

We should be grateful for having Henin and Clijsters (and Serena, and Venus, as they could've retired too by now) around, as stimulus for the youngsters.

Througout this thread I said that there should be at least 20 players of equal quality to make the sport interesting and assure in this way that all tickets are sold (lately I've seen many half empty courts). Personally I think that these comebacs will not inspire any younger player,on the contrary ,they will deprive two younger players of getting wildcards to the tournaments...a bad policy... Personally I find that if you are retired that should be definitive with no step backwards... -"Unfortunately Kim and Justine,I dont welcome you''- |

lol, you guys won't be laughing in 3-5 years time. WTA will dominated by Chinese girls just like the non English speaking "kims" Koreans on the current lpga golf tour. It'll be chens and ha's on every trophy.

I do not hate Kim and Justine...on the contrary I was always a Kim's fan and she was always since her first matches my favorite player and I would like to see her play again and again up to the moment she will be escorted by her grandsons to the court (ha ha ha)...but I understand also that this does not improve or upgrade the quality of tennis we see on the courts...because upgrading in sport is an internal phenomenon of the players that suddenly they find themselves with enough confidence as to beat everyone (see this phenomenon in the ATP side with players as Davydenko,Del Potro and Verdasco)...this same phenomenon was happening in the WTA in the last month previous to the US. Open in which I can recall Caroline Wozniacki and Yanina Wickmeyer playing a superb tennis (I remember I saw matches that made me think about Justine's and Kim's best matches)...but then came a wildcard that put a stick in the wheel of Mrs.Wozniacki with no benefit to anyone...just for the pocket of Kim... I am afraid that after Justine will play in Australia all the sport will be set to the mold of her (and Kim's) shoes instead of upgrading...and the WTA will suffer again from empty courts, lack of interest in their matches, etc. Kim and Justine are not a guarantee for an upgrade...Sorry... |

At least there are some folks on the WTA that can now challenge Serena.

Wozniacki didn't win the USO because she wasn't good enough (yet) to be a champ. |
