Quiet wedding for Stanislas Wawrinka
Switzerland’s second ranking tennis star and Olympic gold medallist Stanislas Wawrinka has married his long-term partner, Ilham Vuilloud.
The private civil ceremony took place on December 12, Vuilloud – herself a television presenter – told a local television programme on Monday.

“We shall celebrate our union in a church ceremony with lots of guests when our child (due in February) is able to carry our rings,” she said.

Wawrinka is 24 years old, and his new wife is 11 years older. He currently stands 21st in the ATP world tennis rankings.

Switzerland’s number one tennis star, Roger Federer, married his partner Mirka in April. She gave birth to twin girls in July.

Wow, she's a whole lot older than Stan. I completely understand why she would want to have kids now but I hope that it works out ok for Stan. He's still got another 5 or 6 years on tour and now that he's going to be a dad, it could affect his ability to concentrate on the game.

Wow Wawrinka looks like he has just rolled out of bed on his wedding day. Scruffy beard and top button undone on his shirt, did he sleep in his wedding suit?

It could, but doesn't necessarilly have to. I wish them all the best, both with the family life & Stan's further career.

Too blunt to notice that she's seven months pregnant?

But well, they've been dating for a very long time, so I guess he knows her well enough to marry her and have a kid together. Stan must be a wise guy for his age, indeed.
what is your country?

I hope they have a happy marriage.

The Netherlands.
Nah, of course 'accidents' happen over here as well . But in general, folks are rather 'old' over here when they start considering having kids. The average age for women is close to 30, and for men, quite a bit beyond that.

That was a translation mistake. The French word 'concubine' just means 'girlfriend', whereas in anglo-american countries, it has quite a negative subtext...

I understood what it meant at the time, but I still got a chuckle out of it.
