Hard-luck Croat Mario Ancic is desperately working for another comeback after several years of battling glandular fever, training over the holiday period with his coach in the heartland of Swedish tennis, Vaxjo.
Since 2007, it's been a struggle with his health rather than ATP opponents for the legally-trained Ancic, 25 and now ranked 95th in the world. His illness returned six times to thwart his efforts of returning full-time to the circuit. And Ancic is concerned only about taking baby steps to get himself back into the game. “I don't even want to consider a return to the Top 10," said the one-time No. 7. "The most important thing is to start to roll now.” Ancic is pointing towards a possible Davis Cup appearance for the March tie against Ecuador, followed by the winner from Serbia and the US. “I'm in Sweden, preparing for a new start,” says Ancic, who spoke with Magnus Norman, a former hip surgery subject and a former player familiar with comeback efforts. "He told me that the most important thing is to start playing as soon as possible and play as much as possible”, said Ancic. http://www.tennistalk.com/en/news/20..._tennis_sticks Nice to see Norman (Soderlings coach) lending out a hand. Ancic at his best, is definitely one of the most talented serve/volleyers left on the tour. Good luck to him. |

Thats great news. I´m a big fan of Ancic, and I feel very sorry for him that he had to go through all this illness. Otherwise I´m convinced he would have been up there among the top players.
I really hope he can stay clear of injuries and illness and can get a good streak in 2010

Thanks Gugafan for this. I am also fan of Ancic and I wish him the best. IMO the worst thing is when your health doesn't allow you to play, because you have a little control of it... You can take care of yourself but sometimes it's not enough... Also, nice to hear that Norman will help him.

ahh yes! Ancic is such a great player and in my opinion very underrated. during all of his mini-come backs he did very well. and he's only 25! hopefully he can play a decent amount this year and get back to top20 in 2011.
