Default Finding cheap vacations

I'm curious about ways to find cheap vacations around the mid-atlantic area (to avoid flying). I'm talking about both summer (beach) and winter (ski) type vacations.

Do you guys use Expedia or other websites like that for booking hotels? How about the time-share sales-pitch getaways where you get a cheap rate, but have to attend a sales presentation and get pressured by a salesperson? Is it worth it to go through that annoyance just for the cheap vacation?

^We got a very nice deal in Hawaii by doing one of those sales presentation thingies for a timeshare. We ended up getting 4 nights for FREE in exchange to listening to a 2 hour sermon on the wonders of that particular place. We also got 100 dollars cash. Pretty nice deal

How do the presentations work? Are you one-on-one with a sales rep? After you sit through the presentation, if you immediately say "I'm not interested in buying", do they let you go or sit there and hound you about it endlessly?

I didn't, my parents did. There were several couples/families in the seminar, each family got an individual salesperson, while there was a person that did the general speech. After the speech and after the tour, my parents said to the salesperson, we're not interested, and the lady said fine. They left after another 2-3 minutes filling out some papers.
