2 questions:

a. when was that?
b. for anyone, let alone someone of hewitt's exhausting style, it's often a pyrrhic victory - he often wilts incredibly in the next match or so.

Adrenalin can empower him to do some amazing things, but eventually the muscles rule over any level of adrenalin.

AO 2005, nuff said, all except the 1st round Hewitt Played 4 or 5 set matches, didn't seem to be struggling at all

First three rounds are normal, 3 or 4 sets, the 4's pretty short.

The next 3 5-setters were superb, very impressive, super-human.

How much did he have in the tank for the final though? Zip, Zilch, Nada, Nothing. Remember, this is Hewitt, in Australia, if he had even 50% in the tank he could probably beat god himself!

Also - my points weren't mutually exclusive. My point? 5 years is a loooong time in the body of a ball-machine-retriever. Just because he could do the above doesn't mean he can.

oh please! Isner is a poor man's Roddick

good backhand but horrible forehand and the footwork is so bad

approach shots and net play are bad due to him being straight up while at net and him not bending down more

if you move Isner to his forehand side he'll lose the point

all Hewitt did was try to get his racquet on his serve and take the net away thus time from Isner by volleying

IMHO, I don't think an easy win against Isner, of all people, changes his prospects for the AO or beyond.

Hewitt will have good & bad streaks from now on but I don't expect him to win any Masters titles, let alone GS ones.

Yep FO...He also cameback from 2 sets to love down against Stephanek at Wimbledon in the 4th rd. (2009). There is no questioning his fitness over 5 sets.

And then played a 5 setter the next match against Roddick and almost beat him despite being injured.

If roddick didn't make that miraculous half volley then hewitt would have won.

yeah Hewitt is a very good serve returner,he probably can handle big servers like Isner, shame he lost to Robredo 6-2,6-4..what was up with that though?

I cant believe people are still talking about the Roddick vs Hewitt Wimby QTF match...its freaking over for 6 months already, just get on will ya!

Obviously no one watched Hewitt play amazingly well at SW19. Hewitt will come good at AO10.

Yes, losing to TR is a bad loss. Still think he will do well in AO!

^He lost badly because of a back injury/spasm. Normal hewitt/very good robredo 8/10.

That's good to know IMO. Hopefully he is better in time for AO.

I'm not too surprised that Hewitt would destroy Isner for many of the reasons mentioned above, primarily his great return of serve.

I saw Isner play in Miami last year against Ferrer, a player with some of Hewitt's strengths. As noted by TinTin, Isner's footwork and net play just won't cut against quick-footed counterpunchers with good passing shots.
