Default Kooyong, No Rodge

"MELBOURNE: Roger Federer Sunday declined to play the AAMI Classic Australian Open tune-up event, with the late decision opening possible doors for the likes of rivals Andy Murray and Andy Roddick."

Good decision.

Yep, wise decision. No need to waste energy on a meaningless exho just again.

Are you serious ?? it isn't about wasting energy. it is about sharpening your timing and being on your game before the slam. Practicing on your own just isn't the same. This is a mistake for Roger,,,,, he will be upset in the semis.

He'll have enough match practice before the semis. He needs to rest, avoid injuries and practice whatever he thinks is off.

This.... but then again, if he makes the semis... he could be hugely surprised by a hot player in the earlier rounds, most likely in the quarters...

Of course. But playing the Kooyong exho or not won't change anything about the chances of that happening.

Practice does not equal real match play....

Match play - aka 'practice' for Fedsie - in the first week of the AO, mate.

How similar was the court in Doha to Melb? Surely if there are some significant differences then it would be beneficial to play.

O well. I don't expect Fed to have an astonishing year (maybe just 1 slam [poor for Feds standards, lol]) as he has broken the main record and has 2 little off court distractions...!!! His drive must have be slightly effected.

Maybe you should ask him if he is looking for a coach, o wise Fedace.

I guess the Bollocks is not working for him. He doesn't have a prayer at the AO.

Doesn't matter. He'll get plenty of practice from the usual clowns right up to the semis.

playing against clowns isn't the same as playing against soderling or a djoker

Maybe because Davydenko handed his azz too him Friday. He needs time to mourn the second loss to a guy he has beaten a dozen times.
