Hey guys...have a question for ya'll. Im going to the Chicago Auto Show next weekend and was wondering which lens I should bring with out of the array that I have. My lenses are:
1. Nikon 18-105mm VR 2. Nikon 55-200mm VR 3. Nikon 70-300mm VR 4. Nikon 35mm f/1.8 5. Nikon 50mm f/1.8 6. Tamon 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro Im thinking of bringing either the 35mm or 50mm for the cars and possibly the 18-105mm. Any help would be appreciated, thanks! __________________ |

if you gonna be inside you will need a faster lens and also a wide angle. you are right in taking the 35mm or the 50mm. take a longer lens incase there is anything else interesting that you cannot get up close to either 18 - 105 (this also gives wider angle at 18mm) or 55 - 200mm (if there is outdoor large space.
otherwise you already know what you need. |

I'm guessing, since this is Chicago in winter, that it'll be indoors. Lighting should be decent, but hardly great, and to keep your shutter speeds down (assuming you're not carrying a tripod/monopod), you'll want the 1.8 glass. The VR will help on the 18-105 if you need something outside of the 35 or 50 range.

IME, the 35/1.8 is much sharper wide-open than the 50, so if you're going to be able to get close to the cars, you will probably have better success with that.
The 35/1.8 is probably the best $200 I've spent on camera gear yet.

I've got a D200, the 18-70, 70-300, 35/1.8, 50/1.8, 135/2.8 AIS, 105/2.5 AI (personal favorite), and 300/4.5 AI. Looking at getting a wider prime (probably a 24/2.8 AI or similar).
Since the D200 meters with AI lenses, it's easy to get really good, cheap glass if you can handle the MF.

I'm guessing by the 18-105 that you're using the D90? I love the D90 - handling is great. I just happened to get a great deal on the D200 when they were being closed out.

If I move from the 200, it'll be to a FF to get back the wide end.
