Default Golfers Elbow (from tennis)

Anyone else have this or no anything about it? It's characterized by pain on the side of the elbow:

Anyone know how to treat this? My dad has this problem

Sure, it is caused by excessive force during forehands (or a forehand-like motion). it is on the "inside" of the elbow (when looking at you palm). It is more painful and tender than tennis elbow and most say it takes longer to heal.

Good luck to your Dad.

Let me ask you a question about the pain...
Is the pain on the top and just above the bump (medial epicondyle) on the inside of your arm (looking at the palm) or is it in the space between that bump and the point of your elbow?

A common thing in tennis players is pinching of the ulnar nerve in the space between the point of the elbow and the medial epicondyle, it sometimes gets misdiagnosed as golfers elbow. I have had this in the past, I have a full western forehand grip and the swiping motion can lead to some pinching of that nerve that leads to a great deal of pain.

Pretty much the best way to treat it is rest and ice, be sure to take enough time away from tennis before trying to get back on the court. Hope this helps.
By the way rest and ice will also help if it is truly golfer's elbow.

I've develpoed the same pain when learning topspin forehand. Mine is caused by a combination of tight grip and the windshield wiping motion I think.

You have any practical tip/trick to help me to relax my grip/arm? It may sound simple but I find it hard to do esp with hard shots coming my way.

Can you swing from the shoulder with the wiping motion? The way I see it, the motion is mostly wrist and forearm action.

I get that kind of pain from serving. I can't serve for two consecutive days without getting that pain. Luckily it vanishes if i take a rest for one or two days. Working out an adding lead to the head of my racket helped me to get better...

thread resusciatation...

I have Golfers Elbow and Ulnar Nerve Entrapment.

It is awful.

After playing this fall "season" I am going to have surgery to address both issues.

I'm going to go with the Topaz procedure b/c i don't want to risk any downside.

Doctor will also do In Situ Ulnar Never release.

I will give an update later this year. Be curious to know if anyone has done the ulnar relase,,,

Use some wrist curls and externors to strenghten your wrist and forearm. It will help.

Hi Bigfoot,

I'm one of those "misdiagnosed"when you mention time away are we talking about weeks, months, years; just to have a window frame in my mind.

You changed yout motion, technique, something? In my case I started feeling the pain developing better serves (strong flat, extra kick); It is also related, in my case, with typing in notebooks that is part of my daily job.

Thanks in advance,

Hi widmerpool, any progress?

I was told that if everything else doesn't work, surgery is an open option.
