King Juan Carlos took Rafa and Maria out for dinner last night in Palma. The king wanted to express his friendship and support during this difficult time for Rafa. They ate outside on the terrace of a well known restaurant and created quite a bit of a stir, not surprisingly.

Does this really qualify as a "difficult time for Rafa"? Same as 2010, tendinitis issues at Wimbledon, skipped Davis Cup Semis, Won the US Open. I doubt Nadal is that bothered by tendinitis, as he's had it every year and missed several events in his career. I would say 2009 was a "difficult time for Rafa" because of the divorce. Tendinitis, just part of the game.

It will be even more difficult when Rafa either withdraws from the US Open or loses in the first round.

Or drops to #4.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Nadal is a lock to win the 2012 US Open. Believe it now or be devastated later. It's a fact.

Fortunately for me, Nadal's result in the US Open has absolutely no bearing on my life, unlike our dear nadal2012uso2013ao who is apparently still depressed over Nadal's 2nd round loss at Wimbledon.

Also, how can it be a fact when Nadal hasn't even confirmed he's gonna play?

Let's just say not every bit of information is given to the media.

All I've done since Wimbledon is praise Rosol for the most entertaining tennis match I've ever seen. I know this is the "net" but you should get your facts straight, around me at least.

Wow, Nadal's backhand is looking really impressive. At least as good as it was in US Open 2010. Do you have any videos of his serve?

Yes this is a difficult time for Rafa and no, the tendinitis is not the same as 2009. But carry on in your lah lah land if you think Rafa's not bothered by his injuries and problems.

2010: Stellar clay season, got down 2 sets to 1 vs 2 bashers in the 1st week of Wimbledon, skipped Davis Cup Semis, Won US Open.

2012: STELLAR clay season, got down 2 sets to 1 vs Rosol in the 1st week of Wimbledon (didn't escape), skipped Olympics, Won US Open.

Only difference, apart from not escaping Rosol (despite playing better than he played vs Petz and Haase in 2010), is that he's not playing Toronto/Cincy, but he looked awful in those events in 2010 anyway. Skipping Toronto/Cincy might allow him to be fresher after the US Open.
2010: on a 14 match Grand Slam winning streak after having dominated Roland Garros and the latter stages of Wimbledon. Lots of confidence.

2012: on a 0 match Grand Slam streak after being humiliated in the latter stages of the 5th set against Rosol, especially on return games. Pulled out of 3 consecutive events. No matches played in almost 2 months.

And we all know how Nadal needs matches to gain confidence.

Are you really so bored that you have to come into a thread about your least favorite player and troll? It's not even good or entertaining trolling, either.

Another picture from the dinner. Maria looks so lovely, doesn't she. Rafa looks tired and sunburned.

I think his face looks swollen. I know he had his wisdom teeth out,but one would think the swelling would have gone down by now since it's been a while ago. He just looks sickly and unwell to me.

Too much training in the sun, not that there's anything wrong with that. Only a girl would worry about how red the face is, lol.

It's not just that his face is red,it's that his face is swollen, and he looks unwell. He does not look healthy at all to me. Something doesn't seem right about him, imo.

I've seen talk that perhaps he only had two teeth out a month or so ago and still is either having problems with the other two or has had them out recently. His dentist (and wife) were with him at the dinner with the king, as was his knee doctor, so it would seem he's spending an inordinate amount of time lately with medical people.

David Nadal, the Mallorcan journalist, tweeted that Rafa is leaving late next week for New York but so far the only information is that he has sponsor obligations to fulfil, nothing about him playing yet.
