Yep, M-C is an idyllic place. I can't imagine not falling in love with it... (+ it's a fascinating mix between the very old and the ultra modern and it's a very special place for sports as well)

Wouldn't it be ironic if during Rafa's (drink responsibly) party everyone who attends gets really wasted, with people vomiting all over the place and breaking furnitures..... Lol

Rafamania. Poor guy was just trying to get to the practice court and apparently wasn't too happy with security...or lack thereof.

Just read some of Nadal's ridiculous stats at Monte Carlo.

Matches W/L: 44-1 (lost to Coria in 2004, 3rd round)
Sets W/L: 86-6
Breaks of serve W/L: 209-66

The sets w/l really jumps out - 6 sets lost in 10 years??? The life (in MC) is crazy, no?

Rafa has such a healthy attitude about competition and winning and everything. I liked this interview: http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/t...n-8574256.html

Quote:
I don’t feel the pressure that I felt these years in the past because I know that after all that has happened the normal thing would be not to repeat all of this. But I’m going to try to be competitive and try to give myself chances to play well.”
Quote:
“When I won my first Monte Carlo title and my first at Roland Garros, in that moment I thought: ‘Now I will have the chance to play for the rest of my career with more calm. I have realised my dream.’ But it was completely the opposite. When you come back the next year, you feel more pressure than before.

“It’s true that you need to feel that pressure to play well, but at the same time you don’t want to stop, you want to keep winning and that always worries you, because you don’t know when that’s going to stop. You have to take care all the time, because if you’re not trying to improve every day, your chances of stopping this success earlier than you would like are much higher.”
Quote:
“It’s [an achievement] to be in the top five after seven months out, so I am very happy for everything,” he said. “If I have to play against top players before the semi-finals, it’s going to be fantastic news because that means I am in quarter-finals.”
Quote:
“It’s not possible to win here every year,” he said. “Some day that’s going to stop. I’ll do my best to make that not happen, but that’s life and that’s sport. Not everything is forever and everything in this life finishes one day, but that doesn’t mean I’m [not] very excited to be here with high motivation to play well.”

On another site, a contributor is there and is sending back daily reports. He said they thought about going to watch Rafa practice but there was such a mob they couldn't even get near the court. They went back a bit later when Djokovic was practicing on the same court and he said there were a couple of dozen people there watching. Monte Carlo loves their Rafa.

Watching that makes me want to . He is a shell of the player he once was.

Exclamation was Rafa really injured ?

How was it that Rafa comes back from major injury and hit the ball even harder than before he was injured ?

No, he's not. He's still awesome. I really think you should try to enjoy it more while it lasts.

And he's definitely better than in 2005-6.

Seriously, if he's her favorite player she should really chill the hell out and enjoy him winning tournaments again and being back playing so well instead of moping. When he's gone you might wish you did.

Nadal hasn't been "awesome" in several years.

He's got more variety now than he did back then, but his movement has declined considerably. It's nowhere near what it used to be.

Calm down, dude. One of these might help.

Rafa's fh on clay has always been great. But what made him a better clay courter (2005-200 was the fact that he could really frustrate opponents with insane defense and chased every freakin' ball. It was possible because he was insanely fast. That's not the case today and for the past 4-5 years. I'm glad he still dominates which speaks volumes of how high his normal level on clay is.

He has been, he is right now.

I don't think it's declined as much as you say. Plus, his improvements more than make up for it.
