LOL. I've been waiting for someone to say this. I watched Inception last week, and while it's a good movie, it's neither original nor as engaging as I thought it would be. The ultimate goal of the characters is to convince a corporate heir to not acquire a rival corporation? WTF? How about something more lofty and exciting, like convincing a prospective murderer not to go ahead with his latest plan.

The movie is very well done in terms of effects, but it seems like a conglomerate of ideas which range from Twilight Zone episodes to The Matrix. Just not as good as I was expecting.

If you mean his wife, then yes. That was the most interesting part of the movie, but not interesting enough. In reality he was just settling things with himself, as whatever dreams he had of his wife were just a figment of his imagination.

I think the whole point is that the movie is not too original. Technically it is well executed, but the story falls a little flat. There is not enough character development. The architect girl's character is so insipid that she might as well not be in the movie. The script is also not that good.

The movie is just not that original, except for the "dream within a dream" concept, and even that I consider to be a little preposterous. There are concepts in this movie which have been also used a lot for over half century. The first ever episode of The Twilight Zone from the late 50s, The Matrix, and Dark City. Also stuff like Total Recall.

It's a good movie, just not great. I much prefer "Shutter Island" to this, even with that movie's faults. Ironically, not many people liked "Shutter Island."

yeah i totally agree with you. i watched the matrix a couple days after i saw inception and i thought it was basically the same. Like you said, the dream within a dream (within a dream?) part was great but as you said the characters were not developed enough. Overall still a fantastic movie.

Saw Dancer in the Dark this morning after watching a tape of the Nalbandian/Bags final. Was not prepared for the second half of this flick. Will not forget this one.

Alice in Wonderland - great graphics and decent story. It knew what it was and delivered.

The Happening - worst....movie....ever. Did Al Gore write it? Hysterical 'the planet is going to die!' tripe. That's 1 hr (started ffwd'ing) I'm never getting back.

Shutter Island is a terrific film, but very dark.

Also, DiCaprio is beginning his descent into self parody as he plays the same manic, paranoic personality over and over again: Aviator, Shutter, Inception, and so on. He can't seem to emote without screaming and/or shaking uncontrollably.

That, and the endless blah blah blah banter of US films while entertaining makes shutter less believable: more a dark comic book than anything reality based.

Ghost World. Anything w/ Steve Buscemi has potential and this one does.

Yes, I agree. DiCaprio has turned out to be a great actor, however. He can play other characters too if given a chance (Catch me if you can, for example.)

Watched The Big Lebowski the other day. Great movie. Steve Buscemi is brilliant in that movie, ironically, because he barely utters a word throughout the whole film (not for lack of trying.) The Coen brothers are awesome.
