I bought an SP LITE in February, but since the snow just came off the courts I haven't been able to use it until today. I immediately noticed that there was a problem with the "Spin" feature of this machine. It will do Back Spin just fine, but when I put it to the Top Spin setting (full level) it doesn't add any topspin. In fact, the ball still has a little backspin on it.
SP is closed today, so I thought I'd post to see if anyone else has had this issue? If so, what was the ultimate fix? Thanks! |

I got mine in December and it has been fine with both top and back spin.
It could be a problem with the electronics. When you have the machine on the zero spin setting and gradually increase the top spin, you should be able to tell a difference in the sound coming from the spinning wheels as the top spin is generated by the top wheel spinning fast than the lower wheel. On mine, I can actually hear the light hum of the top wheel speeding up. Hopefully SP can get you fixed up. |

This may not be the problem or help, but I'd at least try to do a "hard reset" by completely powering your machine down for a period of time and then restarting. My machine powers down at the control panel by pressing a button, but also has a toggle switch underneath the machine which completely cuts the power to the control panel and anywhere/everywhere else. Make sure no battery chargers or electrical wires are connected to machine.
Different devices require different periods of time for their internal switches/circuits to reset. To be safe I'd power down for at least an hour, then power back up and try your spin dial again. Good Luck. |

Thanks for the help. I'll try these ideas and also call SP today.
HitItHarder, Your post helped my diagnosis. I do hear a difference with when I set the machine to backspin (like one of the wheels in increasing speed), but I don't hear any of that when I put the setting on top spin. I was suspecting that this was an issue. |

I just talked to Steve at SP. He thinks it's the board. He is sending a new one out today. He was very helpful and pleasant to deal with. Hopefully this will fix the problem.

One of the reasons I bought my SP Star is that I have a friend who bought a demo model SP Pro on ebya directly from SP and had to have several things fixed on the machine including new ball throwing wheels and a new circuit board. SP customer service was very responsive to him too which helped convince me I was making a good decision to buy the Star. So far I've only called to ask SP customer service a question about my battery charger but they answered my question quickly and competently.

I am happy to report that the new board fixed the topspin issue. The board arrived on Saturday and installation was straightforward. Thanks to all that responded.
