Default Roddick hit a 110mph forehand

Of all the things the TW posters talk/argue/whine/discuss about, I think this is the one time where all of TW is right: Roddick's forehand.

We've all been screaming it for a few years now. Wanting Roddick to unleash the infamous 03/04 forehand. Many players have come up and have brought huge forehands to the point it made you doubt Roddick's fh power. His match against Nadal puts that to rest. 110 is absolutely huge.

Puzzles me why he leaves that shot in the bag.

This isn't just TW, this is practically the whole world.

When did this happen? I saw a few big ones in highlights but when the audio is out of sync, it's impossible to tell the difference between 90 and 100.

It was nice, inside out....tons of pace. I'll go back to my Tivo and dig up the exact moment and post it.

I was watching the match live and I can tell you everyone in my section jumped to their feet after the shot. Being at the stadium I did not see the speed it registered. Only when I was back home talking to a friend about the match, and I mentioned the forehand is when I was told it was 110 mph. Roddick just unloaded on the forehand hardest hit forehand I have ever seen live in person.

James Blake hit the hardest FH ever. It didn't register but Damn. JBF#1 would love this. I would be prepared to say this was over 120mph.

Here's another one at 110 mph. Hit at Indian Wells against Ancic, by Nadal.

Was it the forehand at 3:50? It doesn't look quite as fast as 110, but I may be wrong.

Whats funny is that Roddick probably has the worst BH in the top 10 and yet his preparation is flawless and his motion though not the prettiest is almost the same every time.

I have noticed recently that several of the guys are capable of hitting these 110 bombs.

Is it the strings, balls, frames, athleticism, or a combination thereof?

Guys are general stronger than before; stronger western grips overall impart more spin along with the string, allowing guys to hit the ball harder while still maintaining control of the ball, etc.

I wish Roddick wouldn't be such a pusher- he'd be a lot more fun to watch if he'd just play more aggressive. Although I always get a good laugh every time I see him slice that approach crosscourt.

I'm pretty sure I remember Gonzalez in the most recent U.S. Open hitting the hardest forehand I've ever seen, and the announcers saying it had been 131 mph.

Does anyone else remember such a thing, or is it possible they were speaking right after the FH of an earlier serve and I just misunderstood? (Note that it's a separate question whether the radar gun was giving an accurate reading.)

And how could we forget Monfils'. This one is ridiculous.
