Interesting that 2 of his kids are college golfers....Lendl himself had a very fine golf game. Some suggested that his golfing caused his back injuries...but one will never know.

At least he is able to pick up a racket now and play a bit; he missed the chance to play the seniors tour and make a lot of bucks.. not that he likely needs them, but the fans would have enjoyed seeing him out there w/Mac & Jimbo..

He agrees that 16-time major winner Federer should be considered the Greatest Of All Time based on his record haul of Slams — but only in the professional era. He argues that two-time calendar Grand Slam winner Rod Laver is the best of the pre-1969 Open era, and the Swiss Maestro is the best since.

That probably is the most fair way to put it though I'd only agree on best player of a decade (Laver 60's, Borg 70's, Lendl 80's, Pete 90's, Fed Noughties - the Great Five).

7:40, Ivan tries to Decapitate Stefan Who Ducks Just In Time! Yes, Lendl was aiming for Stefan's head. Probably Stefan is on his guard against just this thing, because, Lendl had hit him before! (Don't remember exactly which match) Lucky that Stefan has very quick reflexes.
I also recall Ivan aiming one of those beheading axes at Mecir at the net. Or the time Ivan hit Boris with a smash at their Wimbledon SF in 89..... and so on and so on.

It wasn't until doctors discovered and treated a ligament tear two years ago in the same area where he suffered from facet joint syndrome and a ruptured disk — conditions that led to his 1994 retirement — that the powerful baseliner showed marked improvement.

I was so sad watching Lendl retire in his Wimbledon match with Goran in 1992 because of his back injury. It had to be very bad, to the point of being unable to stand, or he would never have done that at Wimbledon. I am looking forward to the Mats exo (unlike any Pete exo, at which I cringe now), but I wonder how Ivan will do since he's been unable to play for 16 years with a ruined back and Mats has been keeping himself sharp on the seniors all this time.

"I'm enjoying the possibilities and options the new strings give me that I didn't have before," he explains of today's synthetic materials. "I can hit certain shots — a heavy backhand slice, a heavy kick serve — and I can go after the ball with pace and spin."

Mac would be defaulted today for crossing the net, no question. Sometimes I think Mac so hates Lendl and dissed and disses him at every available opportunity because he knows Lendl is his true contemporary of the 1980's, not Borg, the best player of the 1970's; and unlike against Borg, Mac looks bad in his h2h with Ivan - for which he makes all types of excuses.
