Oh well another "top 50 Standford" player is a bust. Too bad I was hoping he would break the curse.

Monroe is a solid, experienced player, not much shame losing to him.

I believe he was ranked in the top 300 a little over a year ago though it looks like he's lost some of his ranking points over the past year.

Correct, which is why I didn't think Klahn would beat him at this point in his career.

A little more experience at the futures and challenger level though, and I think Klahn will be consistently beating guys like Monroe.

Agree, that's very encouraging for Brad. He lost, but he didn't go down in two easy sets. According to the scoreline, it could have gone either way. He just needs to play a few more of these matches, and he'll soon climb up the ATP ranking

A few questions for you and others .... Did you play him in the juniors? and, Do you think he now has a 135-mph serve (or is that an exaggeration)? How consistent is it? Does he complement his big serve have an arsenal of other serve types?
What areas does he need to improve to beat a guy like Monroe? What does he need to compete with a top 150 player?
<thx, I'll take my anwers off the air>

In watching the match between him and Monroe, he actually had several instances to close out the match. I actually thought he was going to be Monroe (especially coming back from 0-3 and 1-4, then being up 5-4 serving for match) in the third. However, I think it was a compound of factors that kind of made the match slip away. Overall though, impressive to have watched him play.

I also suspect what Brad needs is more experience at the quarters of Futures to Challenger level to beat a guy like Nick Monroe.

I saw Nick play in a tournament last year and was impressed. I thought he was a very athletic, smart and versatile player who has been on the circuit a while with some decent success.

I'm not really sure if any collegiate programs are sponsored by racquet/string company "X". From what I've gathered is that it is partnership-type program where the tennis programs get equipment at great discounts.
