Tournament... with a consolation

Just a question on phrasing. On the USTA tennislink site for a tournament, it specifically says:

"This is a ... Tournament with a consolation."

How would you interpret this?

I entered this tournament thinking... consolation draw.

In the context of a tournament, consolation would seem to refer to a back draw. In the context of tennis, 'consolation' seems an odd way to refer to a PRIZE, particularly when you don't say 'PRIZE'...

Am I just having an odd interpretation of this? I'm a bit miffed that the only reason I signed up for the tournament turns out to be a poor or incorrect tournament description.

A Backdraw is the only thing that I know that a consolation would refer too.

Usually it says either FMLC (if you lose in the first match), or FRLC (if you lose in the first round, but if you get a bye and lose you dont go to the consolation).

But I guess in English consolation can mean anything depending on the context.

Maybe they just mean that you lost your first match 0-6, 0-6 in 20 minutes, they took a lot of money from you, but as a consolation, they wont stick their foot up your.....

Yeah basically in the coding it must say FMLC or FRLC for consolation draws.

In the tournament description, anything can be written in by the TD. If they use poor terms, well that's on them. If you don't see FMLC or FRLC then I would assume that there would be NO consolations. If the description of the tournament says otherwise or is confusing, you have to call the TD to clarify.

thanks for the clarifications! Kind of upsetting. I'm used to a few tournaments that don't even mention it (these actually have deep feed-in consolation draws). Should have asked before signing up
