The Decisions For The Doping Cases In Tennis
I have looked at the ITF anti doping site( http://www.itftennis.com/antidoping/news/decisions.asp ), and I was completely shocked about the reality of how the ITF takes the doping cases as a joke. this is some informations about some doping cases starting on 2006:
1_ Wayne Odesnik (19 May 2010) :
The HGH was found in his luggage. He asserted that he had purchased the HGH on professional advice to treat a recurring injury, and he intended to apply for a therapeutic use exemption prior to using it. He denied ever using any of the HGH. The ITF has no evidence to contradict that denial, but he didn't in fact obtain or apply for a therapeutic use exemption for HGH prior to obtaining it.
(( So, the athletes buy the drugs, then they ask for an exemption. Is this a joke!! )).
2_ Kristina Antoniychuk (12 May 2010) :
#Tested on 22 Feb 2010 at the Abierto event. Suspended for 14 months starting at the test day.
She asserted that the Furosemide had got into her system through her therapeutic use of the substance. She denied any intent to enhance her performance. The ITF accepted !!!
3_ Andrei Plotniy (18 March 2010) :
#Tested on 1 Nov 2009 at the Challenger in Astana. Suspended for 15 months starting at the test day.
He asserted that the Carphedon had got into his system through his ingestion of Phenotropil, a prescribed medication. He denied taking any prohibited substance knowingly, and denied any intent to cheat. The ITF accepted !!!
(( I think that the doctors trying to find medicines which contains an illegal drugs but it's not mentioned in the sheet, and they can use this excuse when the test result be positive)).
4_ Flippo Volandri (19 May 2009) :
His sample contained Salbutamol at a concentration greater than 1,000 ng/ml. The CAS rejected his appeal against the original tribunal (15 Jan 2009), but found that the sanction should be a warning and no ban, and disqualification of only one event's results.
(( I believe that the medicines which contains an illegal drugs must be banned. The athletes use this kind of medicines even for not a serious injury. They can use more than the maximum level that is allowed, before few days from the start of the competition, and when the athletes be tested, the level in their systems will be at the allowed level )).
5_ Ivo Minar (14 October 2009) :
#Tested on 11 july 2009 during Davis Cup. Suspended for 8 months starting at the test day.
He asserted that the Methylhexanamine had got into his system through his ingestion of a nutritional supplement product. He denied taking any prohibited substance knowingly and denied any intent to cheat. The ITF accepted !!!
6_ Courtney Nagle (2 April 2009) :
#Tested on 29 July 2008 at the Nordic Light event. Suspended for 16 months starting at the test day.(( 8 months between the test day and the decision day. WHY?! )).
The ITF found that she established how the Canrenone had entered her body and that there had been no intent to enhance her sporting porformance.
7_ All these 4 players tested positive for Cannabis (in competition). and the ITF made the same decision for all of them :" The ITF found that had been no intent to enhance his sporting porformance by the taking of Cannabis ( Specified Substance)".
* Guillaume Legat (8 April 2008 ):
#Tested on 3 june 2007 at a league match in Bois Guillaume. suspended for 6 months starting on 28 Febraury 2008. (( 10 months between the test day and the decision day. WHY?! )).
* Marcel Felder (29 February 2008 ):
# Tested on 19 Nov 2007 at the ATP challenger in Mexico. Suspended for 2 months starting on 11 Feb 2008.
* Franz Stauder (20 September 2007):
# Tested on 10 june 2007 at the Gerry Weber Open. Suspended for 2 months starting on 6 Sep 2007.
*Holger Fischer (30 Jan 2006):
# Tested on 22 Sep 2005 at the Swiss Tennis event. Suspended for 3 months starting since he had voluntarily withdraw from competition from the date of the test.
8_ John Paul Frutto (21 January 2008 ):
#Tested on 16 July2007 at the Comerica Challenger. Suspended for 14 months starting on 1 Oct2007.
The independent Tribunal found that a sample provided by Mr.Fruttero contained Modafinil and metabolites. He admitted the offince and pleaded in mitigation that he bore No Significant Fault or negligence. The Tribunal accepted thet!!!.
9_Kyu Tae Im (3 January 2008 ):
# Tested on 16 July 2007 at the Comerica Challenger. Suspended for 3 month starting on 20 Nov2007.
The ITF found that there had been no intent on the part of Mr.Im to enhance his sporting performance by the ingestion of Ephedrine ((specified substance)).
(( I think that Maradona tested positive for Ephedrine in 1994 World Cup, and he was banned for 15 months!!!)).
10_ Marcelo Melo (24 September 2007):
# Tested on 10 June 2007 at the Artois event. Suspended for 2 months starting on 10 Sep 2007.
The ITF found that there had been no intent on the part of Mr.Melo to enhance his sporting performance by taking of Isometheptene ((specified substance)).
11_Antoy Dupuis (2 October 2006):
# Tested on 2 May 2006 at the Tunis Challenger. Suspended for 2&1/2 months starting from when the player voluntarily withdrew from competition on 26 Aug 2006.
The independent Tribunal found that there had been no intent to enhance performance by the taking of Salbutamol ((specified substance)). He claimed it was for medical reasons (to treat asthma) but he didn't have a valid Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) to cover the treatment.
12_Ilanit Fridman (2 Mar 2006):
# Tested on 5 Oct 2005 at the US Open Wheelchair. Suspended for 1 month starting on 24 Dec 2005 and ending on 23 June2006 ((which means that her ban had been ended before the decision came out by 3&1/2 months!!)).
The Tribuanl found that there had been no intent to enhance performance by the taking of Terbutaline ((specified substance)). She claimed that it was for medical reasons (to treat asthma) but she was found at fault for failing to take personal responsibility for ensuring that she had a valid (TUE) to cover the use of Terbutaline.
13_David Buck (28 Februry 2006):
#Tested on 6 Oct 2005 at the US Open Wheelchair. Suspended for 3&1/2 months starting on 10 Oct.
The Tribunal found that there had been no intent to enhance performance by the taking of Cannabis. But added that this case is "regrettably, one of deliberate commission of a doping offence" because the player didn't deny that he knew that Cannabis was a Specified Substance, faild to apply for a (TUE), and continued to participate in ITF competitions.
14_Mariano Hood (8 February 2006):
#Tested on 31 May 2005 at the Roland Garros. Suspended for 1 year starting on 10 Oct 2005.
The Tribunal accepted that he took the substance (Finasteride -masking agent) as part of a medical treatment for hair loss, that he had done so for some years, but failed to recognise the addition of finasteride to the prohibited list in 2005. The Tribunal also rejected a defence of no fault or negligance, but accepted an alternative plea of no significant fault or negligence.
(( how much the hair loss is dangerous to allow for the athletes to take a medicine contains an illegal drugs!! )).
15_Sesil Karatantcheva (11 January 2006):
# Tested positive ((twice)) for Steroid (nandrolone):
* on 31 May 2005 at Roland Garros.
* on 5 July 2005 in Tokyo ( out of competition).
The Tribuanl rejected the player's defences but determined that the ((two)) offences would be treated as ((one single)) first offence for sanctioning purposes.
16_Meliha Karic (21 Dec 2006):
#Tested on 25 July 2006 at the British Open Weelchair.Suspended for 2 years starting from the test.
The Tribunal found that there had been no intent to enhance performance by the taking of Adrafinil ((Stimulant)) as part of the player's medication.
(Why were they treat her harshly as this, and didn't make the same decision for her as the others?!).
17_Yanina Wickmayer and Xavier Malisse (7 Nov 2009):
Missed 3 drug tests in 2009 and they banned for just 1 month!! even their ban was at the break between last year and this year (while there is no tournaments).
In other cases sush as the British sprinter Christine Oherougu, the IOC banned her for 2 years because she had missed 3 tests.
1_ All the cases were in competition.
2_ In 15 cases, the ITF came out with the same comment (excuse): "The ITF found that there had been no intent to enhance the performance".
(( So,WHY have the players taken the drugs?!!)).
3_In case number 12 the punishment had been ended before the decision had came out by almost 3 months!!
