Got a better look at the new SC units today. I liked the SP campaign in WoL, and I'm looking forward to more of the same in HotS, but MP looks like a yawn-fest. Was I the only one who saw the new Terran units and went 'lawl transformers'?

Blizzard gave Protoss buffs with 1.4.2 and took a swipe at ghosts..

I think I'm one of the worst players on my team (I've only been playing SC2/RTS since Jan, never played any other RTS). The other guys in my region that I met yesterday seem pretty intense, hopefully I'll be able to improve by the time the actual season rolls around. I'm getting steamrolled in TvT, I'm like 0-8 on my recent matches. I'm playing vs protoss with a pretty good win-rate, I am building towards a two thor rush. Zerg is a pretty good match up for me, but banelings are hurting me due to my really, really poor control. i need to get better at the patrol-move marine spreading. The other major reason is that I go thor rush for TvZ as well, but my auto-repairing SCVs get splashed by the banelings and my thors lose their regen
(As an aside: The team I just joined only allowed Plat or higher players to be on the team, and I was keeping my MMR low on my main account [gold] so I could off-race and learn zerg, so I ended up buying a smurf account and laddering pretty hard for ~1 week to jump to #1 plat. However, I was focusing mainly on my thor-based build, and I was beating 50-100 rank diamonds, but I don't think my actual skillset is good enough to be placed there.) Quote:

I REALLY dislike the changes Blizzard has in store for Terran.
Limiting Terrans to just one super Thor? Folks don't usually use the 250mm cannons, but now they want to put into play some sort of 1000mm cannon? The semi-forcefield is only good if your own forces aren't in the area itself. Probably useful for defending the natural expansion, but not much else. The Warhock looks like a ripoff of the Mechwarrior Warhammer unit. And this is supposed to replace the Thor? Battle hellions? More Transformers? As if Terran didn't have enough units to micro... Whetever. I might have to take a pass on Heart of the Swarm. Haven't seen the previews of the Zerg and Protoss units yet.

If you're talking about the forcefield where it's like a spinning ball of blades or whatever, that can be a serious, serious game changer. Think any lings are going to get into your base? IMO the most interesting units are the Protoss units, I might switch races pretty hard when I try HoTS. The Zerg units also have interesting features (ones I'm positive I dont' understand how to use), so it'll be interesting to see how gameplay is affected. IMO the new game will require a much better game sense, and I haven't developed it yet.

Waking the thread back up.
I don't know which units I hate more: roaches or void rays? As a Terran, I can't stand fighting roaches. They melt marines with ease, clobber marauders up close, they can burrow and tunnel their way around things, they are cheap, and they take tons of punishment. They're more OP than stimmed Marauders. If a Protoss has 6 or so Void Rays grouped together, it's basically GG. They fry things so quickly. The only things that seem to give them problems are hydralisks or infestors. But since I always see roaches (even in my sleep), they get #1on my enemy list. Oh, and I am actually playing again after a long hiatus. I still suck, but I can accept that.

If you aren't already, build more thors Roaches are really good units, though. I think you are undervaluing your marauders, though, but that's just me http://shuttur.com/image/735 this is a good info graphic, if you can bring your speed up, this is easily achievable, IMO

I'm kind of disappointed with Terran mech. The potential is there, but really hard to mesh them together. Thors + Battlecruisers = clumsy and slow. Thor's 250mm cannons, Battlecruiser's Yamato Cannon rarely used. I love the Banshees, Hellions are great against bio, Ravens are nifty, Medivacs are a bit easy to lose track of but serve their use. I wish we had the Science Vessel from the campaign. I'll check your link later. Thanks.

Just thought about something. Are sensor towers even useful in multiplay? I was mad when I didn't an engineering bay soon enough which of course resulted in getting my base cloak banshee blasted. Missile turrets are quite a wasted investment unless you know there is air coming. Sensor towers seem nice, but their location can easily be pinpointed. And even if it detects enemy movement there's still not enough time to really prepare for it short of using a scan.

Any Zerg that gets roaches in mass against Terran (unless the Terran is going mech) isn't very good. Stimmed bio with medivac support + tanks rip roaches apart quite easily. Mass lings with infestors while teching to brood lords or ultras are the way to go against terran.

Yet another Terran nerf? Ghost Snipe damage reduced from 45 to 25 (+25 vs Psionic). Meanwhile there is an new upgrade available to give Protoss Phoenix +2 range.
Protoss is becoming Blizzard's little favorite. Has there been any enhancement for Terran over the past year? Even the Zerg have gotten buffs.

I don't know the first thing about Starcraft, but CNN ran a story today about South Korean Starcraft tournament players and addictions to the game in that country. I thought it was an interesting piece, though I can't tell if there are any biases in the article. Anyway, enjoy:

I'm still not feeling Heart of the Swarm. Maybe my mind will change when it's released. How many globe units do the Protoss need? Do Terrans really need Transformers? Eh...
I decided to work on a video project to help out beginners. I'm no pro, but I've helped a few Terran noobs improve. I had to upload this replay of a 3 vs AI clip. My first attempt to commentate a match. LOL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gc1_yBBpgQQ

so, how is the community these days?
I retired after a season in Masters (took me a long time in Diamond to make the leap, lol) I haven't logged on since January, I realised this week, and I was wondering how healthy things are? I have been playing a bit of WCIII Frozen Throne again lately and I am amazed by how many players are still active and how healthy the community still is (this is a ten year old game!) playing it reminds me just how much I love the small army hero based gameplay and how bored I had become with the cookie cutter macro based style of SC-II. (allied to the fact that I'm a better WC player, always was..)
