Anyone know why the grip size on my racquet is shrinking?

I have a IG Prestige MP in 4 3/8 with a leather grip and over grip. My Prestige has a really small grip, so I built it up using the heat shrink sleeve, so in theory it should have a 4 5/8 grip size now. So I play with it a couple of days and then I notice that the grip size on it has shrunk back to 4 3/8 I noticed when I held the racquet in a continental grip and placed my left index finger in between my fingers that was holding the racquet, my index finger was touching the fingers on my right hand when they weren't before

Anyone know why? and prevent it from shrinking... thanks!

Fibers compress over time with constant pressure. Especially leather. No real prevention.

the pallet and the heat sleeve won't shrink, but the leather grip and overgrip will and does compress with use. to my knowledge, there's no way to prevent a leather grip from compressing and getting thinner. as far as overgrips go, just replace the overgrip more often.

That's why if you want the same feel from when you first got it, you should buy another one if it matters that much to you. I replace mine every 2-4 months.
