I am the first guy you would expect to be holding a 6.1 95, but everytime I hit it it makes me want the 90 more.

I think if I flirt with a heavy Wilson from now on, it'll be a box beam. The feel of any box-beamer at 12-plus ounces is deeeelightful, whereas the feel of the 6.1 95 series seems to be just a TOUCH too rigid for me. One day, I will try the supposedly easier-to-use Pro Staff 90 BLX. There was a guy who had the court last night that I then took over who was just crushing with the PS90. As we were changing over I asked how he liked them and he said he was in love, that he much preferred them to the previous version.

Total Mission Failure.
The 200 arrived... the light version. 11.2 strung. Ugh. I didn't even realize there was a light version of this thing until two days ago, well after I ordered it, and never asked to differentiate. Will see about a refund.

ry, Will be interesting to see how you get along with those N's. Meags, I thought aggressive's 'controversial' poly stringing link would be right up your street... "Let the experiments begin!"... 808, Keep us posted on your hit w/the new Prestige. As you'll be aware, it's garnered some high praise around the TT boards. Sounds like a real winner from what I've read. PP, I'm presently testing the 2 below (though, like as with a few of us, 6.1 is in prime position.) Quote:
"Chumbawamba"?!!!... Eek! "whereas the feel of the 6.1 95 series seems to be just a TOUCH too rigid for me."... I do know what you mean. Quote:

Shame as I was looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the RDiS 200. I just read up on the TT customer feedback. Sounds interesting for sure. Something a tiny bit along the lines of the esteemed RD7 I wonder?

Ha. I hear you, I hear you. But.. I hit with one of MD's 85s with gut mains last week, then switched to my 85 with full poly... and far preferred the full poly. I couldn't control the gut. Launching everything. Two things: I think I'm just used to full poly now. And also, I'm a little hesitant to use gut where I currently live, because I'm by the beach and the air can be really heavy around here with a constant 'marine layer' (fancy word for fog) that kind of sticks around here some days, and which I often play through. That damp air could mess with the gut a little bit. Maybe this is overthinking, but... I don't know. I just know the 6.1 95 isn't my frame. At least the BLX version. Immediately more comfy when I've gone to my 7G or my Ace, and that's been the case when the string setups have been identical.... Actually, your observation about needing a smooth stroke with the 6.1 vs. swinging away with it really struck a chord, especially when you said 'sometimes I just can't help but to swing out' on a kill shot, or something to that effect. With my 7Gs I'm able to kill a winner, with the 6.1 I have to stay smooth but I can't keep myself from going after that kill shot, and too often I'm the one who dies. Quote:

Thanks for the clarification re not endorsing Chumbawamba. We can all sleep easier in our beds now. RE your thoughts on 6.1 and swinging away etc, I personally find it a bit odd almost in the sense it swings so quick/light to the ball and yet we're talking mucho crush factor when it makes contact... I've said it before but there's something almost like an illusion to it. However, IMO it isn't the absolute 'Don' when it comes to build/solidness (recent hits with TGKPP and PT630 trumped the Wilson in this; and indeed I'm of the opinion the N95 is also superioir in these regards.) I also agree with the past observation there is a rigidness to it. All of which sounds rather negative, but generally I think it's an incredible racket and to a degree I'm nitpicking here. The racketaholic eagle eh? Search your soul well young Gadso. The answer lies within. RdiS200 or Prestige MP? I too shall meditate upon this thought as I skive off work and busy myself ignoring that ringing telephone.

Just posted this in the strings....Ive asked the question about some Jaycee advocates taking a liking to a poly/poly set up with thicker mains and thinner crosses. Feel free to post if you have done this and what your results were......
Ok Ive just strung my Melbourne up @ 45lbs with b5e 1.24 mains and Discho Iontec 1.20 crosses. I had a number of variations I could have used and probably will do over the coming weeks if this combination holds up and proves to be more efficient than a full poly job of the same string. I chose this combination because of the b5e has a stiffness and playability that I like but my Melbourne likes a softer string, so to take advantage of its ball cupping and dwell time qualities I chose Iontec which is a much softer and more powerful poly. Hopefully the difference in gauge that the Jaycee advocates advise helps in playability. Initial 'back garden against the wall' tests feel good. Feel is real smooth and full, not as much funky side spin like some polys Ive used but a very predictable spin with lots of revolutions I can see, much like Id expect from a full bed of b5e. Power feels up, which can be good if its controllable. My main aim has been to find a softer poly than my usual tour bite set up that would suit the BB Melbourne, generating the grip and spin TB does but with better feel. Ive tested a few and feel is getting better without losing playability, now Ive come across more variations which has taken me sideways for the moment. I will report back on how it plays later in the week.

What polys have you used as crosses? Seeing as my racquet lust has been tamed for the time being I'm now going loco on strings and I can't seem to shake this gut/poly thought out of my head. I'm pretty sure I'll be using VS17 on the mains but I'm wondering if shaped poly (i.e. Tornado, BC, RC, etc) are going to cut through the gut too quickly. I saw that you were getting pretty good life out of your setups and that will be a definitely requirement if I'm going to be shelling out for gut every time.
Then again, I live in Texas. And Texas summers are no place for gut. And for those of you who are unaware, Texas summers run from approximately April-October......

Well I am in Florida so I get it when it comes to humidity. And plenty of people here are using gut, so it is a least worth a try. Everyone here in this thread drops tons of cash on sticks, so getting some gut is not too expensive. the coatings they use nowadays are much better and will last longer in any weather. Anyway, I use Cofocus crosses and I have some MSV heptatwist to try as well. They are both very slick polys and the cofocus is inexpensive. So you would be spending under $20 a string job with that if you got pacific classic. Thats the way to go.
Gads, I hear you on the 6.1. I think it is still the best for me, but I am going to try the Pro Open and see how they compare. Also, should have a kps88 here today as well. That will be a fun little ride.

Given what you've said about the 95d, Typhoon sounds like a match made in heaven. It gave the ytpp a big set of balls when strung at 58/56.

Has anyone here hit with the Tourna BHB7 yet? I'm curious to see if this one could be a seriously cheaper yet worthwhile alternative to my current tornado.

PP and other users, I too am really interested in the gut/poly and as I have the same racket as pp his reports really interest me especially the relaxed technique with great spin. But as i am only young and in the UK don't know really where to start on what gut and what poly to use also the gauges. PP says cofocus but that is hard to get n the uk. thanks

Gut wise the best value is probably Pacific classic gut at £20 notes thats a pretty decent price.
