It made the Pure Drives feel perfect. Stiff racquets with gut in the mains is a fantastic feeling combo.

Right. Not only because I have a suspicion now that the last month's detour away from the APDO may not last a whole lot longer (who ever would've thought it?!), but just generally I was mega-impressed with the gut/poly today - so this I will prioritize for the end of the summer (I'll be having a fairly long break from tennis as it's the family holiday coming up soon.) Time to start reading up then on natty gut options, and preferably one's which won't be scarily pricey.

I also feel like I've been "treading water" a bit lately re polys and there's a few that have caught my eye recently and I want to investigate (including WC Scorpion, Cyclone, Poly Tour Pro).

Plus while we're at it, I wouldn't mind exploring a few SGs (like Gosen OG Mico and Forten Sweet) just as I'm pretty unfamiliar in this area with the the exception of Bab Nvy, which I've used quite a bit this year.

Anyhow, the time has come to investigate all this stuff and to stop delving back in my old stock just because it's there.

Best thing I ever did was just put myself on a budget and pretend like I have no $$$ . Suddenly the Holic urge goes away because I am happy with what I have and can't switch anyway. that is how I found the courier setup. The last frontier for me is to try a set of these yonex strings and that is about all that is left.

I even have broken in my asics solutions and those were bugging my feet at first. But I needed an alternate with my Babolats and I had these in my closet.

So yeah...you tend to think less about what stick or string..etc when you know your only options are what you have in your bag.

It also motivates you to play tennis for other reasons besides trying out a new stick, which I think sometimes can become a hurdle.

This becomes a challenge for me. I think I am very solid, tough and play well with the IGPMP, but sometimes I find the need to have something new to get me excited about playing.

Maybe that's what string, and other gear is for??

Totally agree. I spent so much time trying to improve on what results I got from the Prestige line that I actually ended up fighting with the frame more than just going out and playing my game. Going back to a Prestige MP is the best possible thing I could do for myself - I'm so grooved to that weight, gripshape, etc, that I'm just hitting a cleaner ball and I can focus on just moving my feet and playing the point.

You just have to play through it because you will be able to fine tune your setup.

For example, I came to the conclusion that I am simply hitting too long right now. My friend and I have been having some epic matches as of late, and my serve has gotten a lot better. Few double faults and the spin I am putting on the ball is heavy,, but I could use a little more, especially on the groundies. So I am going to flip the strings and see how the poly mains goes with gosen crosses. I am in love with the courier setup, but I need to get a little more drop on the ball because my friend is a very good hitter and he never really gives me much to work with off his rally balls.

Anyway, the fine tuning really only happens for me months down the road. I need to spend a little time with the poly main and see how it plays. Regardless, I have so few variables that these tweaks are very easy to make since I know my setup rather well now.

Funny story, I broke 3 strings at once on a serve return and I am not sure if you guys have ever done that, but the cracking sound was so loud people thought I had broken my frame.

Up close, it's especially epic. Still have vids from Indian Wells of both Fed and Nadal practicing, went through the painful procedure of learning editing, then YouTube told me the files were too big and I gave up. One day, I will complete the mission.

^^
soft, vague. wasn't into it. that was in a full bed, though. not sure how it'd be in a cross if you're stylin' with gut mains now, rossy.

Gents abroad: you've gotta be so proud of your boy. What beautiful resilience.

Five strings is my record.

Played really well today with the MP. Was down 1-5 using the IGRP vs my main hit (who's had the upper hand all year). Switched to my Prestige and was much more solid. 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (7-2 TB) I'm done searching. Returned and hit the ball so well especially on the 2HBH side.

Actually hit my kick serve pretty well too. I've struggled on serve with the Prestige, but I think it's form (I'm sure it is vs the stick (it's always the Indian, never the arrow...)..)

BTW, Black Widow is good IMO. Muted perhaps (or vague is apropos too), but tons of action - lots of spin for me. On the flip side, I also tried RPM 18 (M) and Timo 1.10 (X) and it's a nice and crisp setup. But just a tad less 'action' on the ball with that setup.

Should I order a third Prestige to "show my affection/commitment" to her, lol...?

I don't know. I know one indian who put lead tape on the feathers to make it more headlight and he shot arrows that were more agile, but there was another indian who liked to put 20g of lead tape on the tip because it felt like it gave him a heavier shot. His opponents agreed...

you know, before they died.

I think one was called Roger Inside-out-forehand-dancing-moon and the other was Novak Sing-in-shower-backhand-down-line. But i'm not sure.

Nice...yonex recommends to go lower on the crosses...so I am going to string up 54/51 with the pros pro in the mains/ ogsm crosses and see how I play with it.
