RHs,

My eyes were popping out my head a bit reading botticelli's post in the 99s thread re it's performance and how it compares to the new APD...
Quote:
Don't know what the hype is all about with the new Wilson Steam 99S.... My current racquet is the 2013 Babolat Aeropro GT (been using the 2013 for a couple of months now) and the differences between the Aeropro and 99S is huge... I asked my friend if he saw a big difference between the two racquets. He said the 99S had too much spin, but with no power behind the ball... He felt the new Aeropro hit a lot heavier ball with more power... I felt my backhand with this racquet was weaker. Backhands were landing short and I felt slice balls were hard to hit. (I have a two handed backhand). Forehand you really have to swing thru the ball to land deep in the court. We played on a slow court and I felt the ball just bounced high, but with no real power behind the shot. When I hit groundies with the Aeropro I can see the difference in spin and power...
I have had the fear that the 99s could be for me something a bit Exo Tourish in how that spin works, ball not getting put away, etc. Not saying it's the same as I obviously do not know yet, but fascinating to read a contrary review to most of the praise and kudos, and it does put the new APD in a good light.

Hi I'm Ray,

Have you hit with the new APD? If so, what's your take on it?

Random post. Extended demo with 6.0 PS95 reveals sexy feel, plow, spin, and forgiving. BM@57.

Plays like a 2k9 Rebel in open pattern. A little slower through the air, but an extremely solid stick. I wanna try bm 17 on the rebel for comparison.

How much time did you spend with the Exo Tour? It has taken me about two months to figure out how to hit winners with this thing but I'm still more content to just work the point with this frame.

So Ross, Who is buying first the new Aeropro, you or me?

I am deciding to apply 90 dollars store credit to Yonex 308 shoes that are on Sale or the new APD. I'm on a serious dilemma. The VCORE 97 Tour is very good in terms of absorbing shots and penetrating the court but the free power of the APD and the aero design is In my Blood.

I appreciate your random post! The prostaff classic 6.0 95 is a sweet stick. I really haven't played with anything that feels quite like it. It's flexy, but has some power due to its weight. I really considered pawning it off my old coach lol. He had tour bite in it, but lord knows that he shouldn't be using poly lol.

The 6.0 is a great racket with really good spin potential. I believe davydenko uses it under a pj

Me too B. TBH though, I'm also keenly following all the feedback re the 99s and new open Blade as well. Let's hope come mid-January I've made up my mind which to look at. Of course, chances are that over time I'll end up looking at them all anyhow (dear oh dear).

I spent about, I don't know, 6 weeks, 8 weeks, something in that region. Maybe you are right and that would have come with time. What did it for me was having a random hit with at my APD and realizing it blasted the pants off the Prince stick. Great frame none-the-less. Stupendous spin. Highly maneuverable and swings lovely. Wonderful soft flex. Just preferred the Aeropro to the Exo from the b-line and for nailing winners and putaways.

I myself read posts about the Blade, the 99, the Juice and others. But, my infatuation revolves around the beautiful, precise and perfectly crafted VCORE Tour 97 and the modern, rebelious and spin monster APD.

The Exo Tour is a weird stick, no doubt about that. I can understand why people would not like it.

Ross....at our level, getting the ball back over the net wins matches...not flat winners. More spin = more net clearance = less unforced errors = more wins.

Also remember that what works for one player may not work for another. I feel like you sometimes take too much stock in what others say about certain racquets. If there's one thing I learned with all my racquet testing, its that its a very individual thing and you shouldn't let a few negative comments change your own impressions.

Yup! I took the PSL for a hit yesterday and it was great. Didn't bother my back at all which was a huge relief. Ill need another one as a back up for tourneys and such.

I enjoyed my time in cortex land but I'm back with the Prestige S. It was fun while it lasted (a week) but the BD just didn't have the control of the S.

I have an easier time with the the S in producing that driving ball that cuts through the court. Hit with my D1 buddy on Monday and that told me all I needed to know with the BD. Reminded me of Gad's apd summary: it will steal you some points but also give some away.

On the upside, I sold the BD more than I bought it for so alls well that ends well.

what did you guys do when you figure out you are just another hack in the park? I was playing the other day with some people and just felt like i was swinging like another hack. Maybe it was all the cute girls walking around mixed with my bad form.

Anyways. Going out for another hit with the 6.0 PS95. I want a pair of these babies so badly.

EDIT: Concerning the 99s and loopy light balls... Lead Tape and strings. I believe these are required to hit a insanely hefty ball.

I personally want Fuji to test it out at 13oz to see what it can really do. I have a feeling that guy hits like a monster.

Hahaha! I hit a pretty heavy ball. I generate stupid amounts of RHS which may be exactly what the doctor ordered for the 99S. Once I'm able to get my hands on one I'll be more than happy to lead it up and tell you how it goes! Any suggestions on what string I should try?
