Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has ideas for team building, inspiration, leadership for a boys high school team. We do go out to dinner occasionally for team bonding but I am looking for new and different ideas to inspire a team, getting them fired-up, and just make it a great experience. Any thing you have would be appreciated. Could be a small thing or a big thing. Thanks, GreenDog |

I am a high school coach out here in San Diego. After a match, I get the whole team together away from all the parents and spectators. I have at this time written in sharpie the date and LJHS (us) vs BLANK (opponent) on the ball/balls. I then give my wrap up of the match and present the game ball to someone whose play, dedication, character was outstanding.
One time a freshmen was needed when our captain got hurt during warmup and the freshman won his first match for the team. He got the ball. Silly little thing in the long run, but being recognized by your coach in front of the whole team not only builds team unity, but a really great relationship between players and coach. For me, this tradition will ALWAYS be a part of whatever teams I coach. Hope it works out as well for you. |

What a great idea! Flashback to Dick Vermeil in the locker room with his players when he was coaching the Eagles. He'd deliver these inspirational post game comments before awarding the game ball.

Thanks for the reply. That is a great idea. And I am going to remember it if I am ever a coach or captain. I am a player on a team and trying to make it a better team but I would like any ideas wether they are for a coach or a player.
Thanks. |
