Sorry, somehow I missed this post. I tried NRG2 16 and you can read my review by going to Post #1 and clicking on the link to it. The only 17g multis I've tried are Pro Supex Maxim Touch 17 full bed and Dunlop Hexy Fibre 17 as a cross. Some 16g multis seem like 17g such as Mantis Comfort Synthetic.

Hey Mikeler,

I was wondering if all your experience if you could give me your opinion and compare Head RIP Control and TF Multifeel. Specifically for they are in terms of: durability and playability. I use 16g strings if that helps.

Thanks!

ps. do you have any experience with the Head RIP hybrid sets: Intellistring and Intellitour?

Check out post #1 of this thread for my reviews. I can't comment on Head RIP Control or Intellitour in terms of durability since I cut both of them out before breakage. Both lacked enough control for my game. MultiFeel is one of my favorites but it only lasted me 4 sets as a full job the one time I tried it.

Very little feel to it, and the ball leaves the stringbed pretty quickly - almost poly like - though obviously without the stiffness. Low powered. Resists string movement pretty well. Makes a bit of an unusual higher pitched 'bok' sound on contact with the ball too!

I just recently went back and looked at some of my stringing notes on Multi-feel so will chime in. I had Tennis Elbow at the time and the Multi-feel is very comfortable. I tried both the 16 and 17 and oddly liked the 16 a little better. I have also read others comments stating the same for some reason in this string. For a while there Multi-feel got a lot of buzz on the boards so there are quite a few comments on it if you go back a way...seems to have died down now. Its a nice comfortable all around string IMHO...good power and okay but not great spin.

The Head Rip control is as quoted above and vs. the Multi-feel I would say much firmer feeling, lower powered but more spin. Almost cordlike feel when stringing...not hard to string...just different feeling. I didn't really like the feeling of playing with it though I know it has fans...probably mostly as a substitute for poly. I think the low power lets people hit out and generate more spin with control.

I would think a flatter hitter looking for comfort, power and touch would like the Multi-feel better. A bigger topspin hitter that likes to really swing out from the baseline would probably like the Rip Control better...truly a string where the name describes it pretty well I think! Hope this helps.

^^^ I thought MultiFeel had above average spin for a multi since it does have a rough surface.

You are probably right. I have limited experience with full multi setups...Multi-Feel, X-One Biphase, Maxum Touch and Rip Control are about it I believe from memory. I was commenting more generally vs. full gut and gut/poly hybrids...which is no new news I guess and not that useful...and vs Rip Control specifically. I thought X-1 also had more spin even though that string has its own quirky characteristics as well! Maxum Touch I didn't like much about at all but that came already strung in a used racquet.

RIP and X1 are definitely spinnier but MultiFeel does give you more access to spin than Maxim Touch.

Searched this thread for Ashaway Dynamite and still unsure of the verdict. Any comments on how Dynamite measures up to the best multis?

Never tried it because of Drakulie's review on this page:

Ty, looking for a winter string. Have a set of Quasi Gut to try, shredded Prince Premier LT within a week. Will try Mantis next. Guess Ashaway Dynamite is not DYN-O-Mite, eh?

By winter string I assume you are looking for soft? If so, I'll warn you that Quasi and Prince are on the stiffer side for multis.

Winter string to replace NG. My elbow agrees with your assessment. Premier LT is not Pacific Classic for sure. Used Wilson Extreme SG 16 in a Six One 95 18x20 this weekend. Elbow and shoulder still recovering.

Thanks for the info re: RIP Control v. Multifeel.

One more question, I play with a Head MG Rad OS currently strung with RIP Control at mid tension (57 lbs). If I try out the Multifeel, should I string it at the same tension?

I think starting out at 57 is reasonable.

It all depends on whether or not you like restringing after it breaks within 75 minutes of playing time.

After using NG, not sure if any multi holds up well. Cannot believe anyone uses Alpha Gut 2000. Only Technifibre e-matrix and Gosen Anna Kournikova were less durable.

I'm currently using B5E mains with Unifibre gut crosses. Looking forward to seeing how long it lasts. It already has some decent fraying going on after my first 2 sets with it.

I'm going all in on my backup racquet - full bed of Thunder Blast. Should have it strung up this weekend at 62#s.

It's a phenomenal volleying string. It's pretty nice for groundies and serves as well. It is quite possibly the stiffest multi I've ever hit with that I can remember.

PP likes plain old synthetic gut so the stiffness of the Thunder Blast might be a positive in his case.
