[quote=mikeler;5319819]RIP mains, Mantis comfort synthetic crosses. Only played with it twice and i really like it, but only if it lasts. Im playing again tomorrow. If it lasts upwards of twenty hours and feels the same throughout I dont think I could go back to the Isospeed Energetic, unless my elbow starts hurting again.

I'm thinking you won't get that long but of course I don't know your game. I'd be surprised if you break the RIP first even with it in the mains. |

[quote=mikeler;5320336]Would your opinion change if i told you i have been playing for over 30 years and i have never broke a cross string? I always break the mains in the upper right or upper left depending on how you look at the racket. My game is a heavy topspin both sides mixed with bh slices especially on serve returns. I play mostly doubles so i like those precise solid volleys with good placement. I found the POG works best for this type of game.

I'm predicting your first cross breakage! Only time will tell though. |

If i break the Mantis crosses, i may consider the Energetic in the crosses with the RIP mains. That's a durability/softness combination.

That sounds like a great setup. I am hooked on the 'polyolefin' string as cross string, although I have yet to use Isospeed's polyolefins, I do and have used Head's various polyolefin strings to much success. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on the Rip C/Energetic hybrid.

It can't have been that good, you lost! Just kidding. Good luck in your next match and keep us posted. Tension loss on that string is supposed to be huge. |

Due to no fault of the string. I rarely get to play against left handed players and I have never played against a left handed 4.0, it was difficult to adjust. I strung up 3 rackets so I suppose I will switch to a fresh one today and rotate them to see if I can avoid the tension loss.

Here's the update. The RIP mains broke this morning after about an hour of steady practice hitting. That would put these at about the 7-9 hour mark. The racket was originally strung by me with a full bed of rip and I cut out the crosses and put the mantis. I really like this setup but I am amazed I broke this string so quick. I am now considering Energetic mains/mantis crosses. The problem with this is I really like the RIP/Mantis combo. I played some real good tennis the two or three times I used it. Or I could stick with it and finally buy a stringer. BTW, the RIP broke where the others always do.

Just strung up the Genesis Xplosion 16. It had the gluey smell. No ghosting from the clamps. It was a very stretchy string along the lines of Maxim Touch. Pretty easy string to work with. It had some coil memory but the initial birds nest I made was easy to untangle. Gave it the old bounce test and it felt very muted and tight. Hopefully it has enough pop for me.
I plan on trying to break the last racket with the Mantis in it and then try the Genesis after that. |

Long story short, I did not get my big string present tonight. Most likely that will happen next weekend. So in the meantime, I need one more string to fill the gap. At the local tennis store today, they had Gamma TNT2, Asterik and Professional. The Professional is $20 so that is out. They also had the Dunlop Silk back in stock. The Silk has an open package and it felt soft, weird that it plays so stiff. I guess one more option would be Wilson Sensation but I've never heard much of anything about this string.
I felt some of the strings on their reels today. X-1 Biphase has an alternating smooth rough texture every centimeter or so. Looks interesting. NRG was more smooth. Babolat Addiction had a mild roughness to it as did the Prince Premiere LT. Can't wait to try all these strings out! The folks at the local tennis shop now know me as the string junkie. Played 2 consolation matches today on the Energy jobs. Still no pain, I think I found a new string.

I thought sensation was okay when i demoed it, too much power and not so great in the spin department, though it was my first time using it and i had just changed frames so it's not fair to make an assessment off of that one use. Mantis was better for me in everything with the exception of spin.
Out of the multis i've tried the order would be something like: - Mantis CS (great but could use more spin) - Prince premier lt (really liked this but i found it really stiff despite using a very soft frame, very good performance though) - Mantis PS (nice but a bit too much pop, didn't try other tension as i only bought the one set) - Sensation (not bad, moves alot and kind of erratic response) I also tried NXT but don't recall how it played at all. |

Sensation is a powerful string that has low durability.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts on Sensation. I warmed up today with the Genesis Xplosion. I was getting terrific depth on my shots. It was good at net but not great. Once I started serving with it, I realized my shoulder was just locked up. It was chilly this morning so I decided to delay the test and pick up the Mantis Comfort. I never could get comfortable on serve, so I just stuck with the Mantis for both sets.
