Yes he did. But at the 1987 Tournament of Champions at the West Side Tennis Club Rostagno used the HEAD TXP. I know because I have a photo of him using it. I was at the match.

Yoakim Nystrom used the F200

In 1989 Woodforde used his Snauwaert Hi-Ten when he won the U.S. Open with McEnroe.

Rostagno did use a Vectris at one stage.

I think it was Carlos Costa who used one of the FT models

There are photos of a very young Agassi holding a Strato

And I can't believe you're all forgetting Mighty Matt Anger - F200!

VS Babs Tanvier photo was actually used in Rossignols 1983 catalogue. It was the F300 she used to use. Woodforde used an F295 to knock Noah out of the Oz Open one year. Not sure if that was when he also beat Courier.

Perhaps I'm thinking of Pascale Paradis (who did use Rossignol at one stage), although I still feel that Tanvier used a white Rossignol F200 on one of her early trips to Australia.

As for Woodforde, although I'm obviously wrong about the US Open I am right in saying that he used Rossignol in 1989. They'd made him a frame designed specially to accomodate the macro string pattern he preferred. I'm pretty sure it's what he was using when he beat Yannick Noah at that year's Aus Open and McEnroe twice during the US season.

Default V-24 >>

how beautiful that frame was ! I used to hit the ball with a guy from Australia who used them when I lived in Stateline Nevada, we used to practice quite a bit at night at an indoor court (Lake Tahoe). I had just made the transition from my Kramer "firm-flex" wood rackets to the Head Graphite Edge. his name was Lynton Franzi.

How long did Woodforde use the Hi-Ten, anyone know? I know he was "hitting" with it at the '86 U.S. Open 'cause I strung them, but don't remember if he was using them in matches. I just remember cringing when one came in for stringing.

Not sure about the vintage of this pic, but just from the shape of the frame and the pj, I'd guess that's an F250 Graphite.

I think Kriek may have dabbled in the F100 before the F250.

Lastly, I believe Wilander's Prince was a CTS Graduate 90 (or at least that pj), which was one of the thinner, more traditional of the widebodies that were prevalent in that era. I also used the CTSG90 for quite some time after the F250, but I think I made the move before Mats...he copied me.

Are you sure that was a Strato young Andre was holding in the photo? I suspect the picture you're thinking of shows him playing with a Garcia frame, which looked a bit like a Strato. I could be wrong, though.

you're right. those brands didn't have a lot of successful players using their racquets. adidas only had lendl, dunlop only had mcenroe and puma only had vila and becker. those are the only ones know of.
Ummmm...Dunlop had one or two other decent pros. Someone called Laver, and another called Graf...and then there was Tony Roche...and Lew Hoad...

Pretty sure the Garcia and Strato were the same racquet, with an almost identical paintjob, save for the name.

Kriek used something else in the Rossi line - didn't he? More like a Head Comp aluminum-fiberglass sandwich thing? An R-40 or something like that? Maybe I'm completely wrong here. Does anyone know?

That'd make sense. Garcia was primarily a fishing company; I doubt they tooled up just to make tennis racquets.

I used to have a poster of Tanvier on my wall. Rostagno's Purple Vectris was a paint job it was the FT 5.60 under the paint. Costa used either the FT 5.60 or 6.60. I seem to remember Agassi holding a Garcia.

On Woodforde, are you sure it was the F295? Because that was purple. I remember him using a Black and silver racquet. The FT 5.80 for a very short time.

Kriek used the R40, The Johan Kriek Carbon, and the F250.

That would be Cragin Garcia...the Garcia 240 was the predecessor to the Rossi Strato(essentially a cosmetic change only). The Rossi folks took over the Garcia wood racket facility in Van Buren, Maine...the last operating wood racket factory in the USA...shut down in the early '80s.

If the mods allow, here is a link to the Garcia 240, of Harold Solomon fame(amongst others).

Tim Mayotte used the F100 before switching over to Head.

Almost certain. I have an anniversary video of the first 10 years of the Oz Open and being the Rossignol disaster that I am it was the first thing I noticed. When i get a chance I'll plug in the VCR and have another look.
