Took the winter off from tennis for the first time in 10 years and I just started hitting again last week. I went out the first two sessions with freshly strung KI5's, kind of to get the old shoulder loosened up and get my feet moving again on a court. Got fresh strings on my melbournes and have hit twice with them now and still absolutely love these frames! Too bad they are discontinued. Are you guys still using yours or have you moved onto to other frames? I get everything I want out of these with no arm or shoulder issues with Gut mains & poly crosses. Feels good to be back on the courts!

Hey Basil,

The Melbourne is still in my bag. As is the Dunlop 4d 200 Tour. I'm currently playing with adding lead in different places. I have one with a polarized set up and one with a de-polarized set up. So far I prefer the polarized set up and the extra spin I've been getting.

I would like to still play around with some string set ups, and will do so once I get a string machine.

I don't plan on switching anytime soon. The melbourne has all the qualities I want in a racquet. The rest is just fine tuning.

I hope your health is well. I read in another thread that you were dealing with a low grade prostate cancer. I've dealt with cancer myself (15 years cancer free )

Good to hear Brian. I play it in stock form and it is a sweet stick. I am currently under "active Surveilance" meaning I go in every 6 months for bloodwork and a Biopsie, If my PSA's change. So far they remain at 4, and I hope that it does not progress any higher. If it does , I will have it removed and be done with.(hopefully).
Since I discovered the cancer I have cleaned up my diet even more so, and have cut out red meats, Gluten and dairy. I pray everyday that I remain healthy for my kids. Glad to hear that you beat it yourself.

That's good to hear Making the changes you've made will certainly help. I healed myself by doing an aggressive alternative program. At the time (15 years ago) I was given a 0% chance of surviving. I was diagnosis with a rare form of Lymphoma. Giving the circumstances, I didn't feel like I had anything to lose. So I changed my diet, cut all refined foods, cleansed my body, juiced wheatgrass every day and took several different herbs, vitamins and minerals. 6 months after the diagnosis, they couldn't find a thing wrong with me. And I haven't had to go back to a doctor for anything since.

Now back to the Melbourne, the one thing I've noticed as I've played both it and the 200 tour, is I can hit a much harder 2hbh with the 200 tour and I don't find myself in defensive positions on that side nearly as much. Hence, the lead modifications. I prefer the maneuverability of the Melbourne and I feel like I've played my best tennis I've ever played since changing to it and the plow and power of the 200 tour is hard to beat sometimes

I couldn't get into the dense bed of the Melbourne as my game wasn't fine tuned enough. It was still a great stick.

Hope the two of you continue to do well with your health. I work with laser equipment and tech prostate surgeries...so I'm exposed to it from a treatment point of view. My best regards

Ah, I bought a Melbourne from someone here on the board, and they dramatically changed the weight and SW. Now, I'll have to sell it because it's useless to me.

Why don't you just remove the modifications they made?

Really, why don't you just undo all the mods. It is easy unless there is silicon in handle but, I highly doubt that there is.
Everything else is easy to undo. This frame is great to work with.

Still loving my Melbournes. They fit my game like a glove. Hadn't had that feeling so consistently with a stick since college.

There's no lead or anything like that, it's just he strung it so tight, that it hurts trying to insert a dampener!

I don't have a machine to soo.........

Is that ALL??? I am sorry, I can not help it but, laugh at your foolishness.
First you say that because of all modifications you can not play with the racquet, claiming that someone changed the weight and SW(see quote in red), now you say that there is no lead or anything like that.
Can you perhaps explain to all of us "fools" here how can you change weight and SW without lead?
And now you say that he strung it so tight that you can not insert dampener.
So, which one is it?

I think you are lost in your lies here. Stop wasting people's time!

I'm a racquet modifications newbie, but I do know this:

I guess you forgot that you can take out the bumper guard and place lead there. It's a 'cleaner' way than to insert it in the hoop.

I believe the CAP grommets are strung so tight, that you can cut yourself trying to restring this racquet. I don't know what in the world the original owner did to this racquet, but I'm going to e-mail him asking if he can refund my money since I don't play with it and that I'll never sell it to anyone who doesn't want this crap done to it.

Also, he didn't say anything in his Ad about it either.

Obviously not the brightest light on the tree but, it is ok. That happens.
So, even if there is lead under grommets? So, what? It is STILL EASILY REMOVABLE.
And no, I did not forget about that. I only do about 6-10 racquets a day. And only about 2-3 of them require modifications. So, what would I know about all that.
Can you explain how can you string CAP grommets so tight? And what exactly does that mean?
Here is a tip. Cut the strings out, remove grommets, remove lead if there is any. Then put grommets back or install new set. All done. End of story?
Sounds too complicated? WHy not have a local shop do it for you then?
I mean, COME ON! How difficult is it to figure out? Either do it yourself or have a local pro do it for you.
I bet you got a great deal on the racquet and if it requires a little effort on your part, so be it.
if you want ideal frame, buy new. They are cheap - i think $60-70/frame.

You posted that I'm not 'a bright light on the tree' but this post does not make any sense. This shows there is another person on the forum who is conciously inconsistent. Why would I spend more money on a racquet that I never play with just to only have a $5-$10 profit? Also, there are mutliple window shoppers on the Ads and I would still not earn anything from restoring the racquet to its original state. I'm not surprised but your post because you're heavily biased as a stringer. This conversation is over.

Yes, then why buy it in a first place?
