Default The Pacific 10 Alliance!

Hey guys, the tennis season is just starting, and it's going to be an exciting conference in the west and south-west. We have some of the best teams in the nation: USC (NCAA team winner in 2009 and 2010), Stanford (NCAA singles champions 2010), UCLA, and more. All these are ranked top 10 Div 1, and we know they are better than these nosy east coast schools .

So, I think we should all come together and discuss everything and anything related to the Pac 10 and west coast conferences. Supporters of any D1 school in the west and southwest are welcome to the forum. Texas schools are welcome as well. (East coast fanboys keep away...).

Let's start the Pacific 10 Alliance!

I think USC mens will get some very stiff competition from UCLA and Stanford .. my prediction is they won't win the Pac 10.. on the hand USC women looks better than their low teens ranking .. I'm looking for them to surprise Stanford.. for the top spot ..

Stanford brought in John Morrissey. It looks like a good pick up for next year!

OK, I checked that, J. Morrissey from Ireland. That's the Irish guy someone on these boards was talking about.

He looks pretty good (was ranked top 30 international juniors, ITA rankings).
Better ranked internationally than Marc Giron who committed to UCLA for next year, and who is supposed to be the top player in the US.

Another recruit for Stanford:

Robert Stineman, #1 in Illinois and Blue Chip.

Here's a great site: ITF international junior rankings.

Nadal had a 10-1 singles record, but wasn't even ranked #1.

Djoko career record in junior: 40-11, and ranked #34 in singles.... Wow, and look where he is now.

Domijan and Klahn were ranked higher in juniors, they both reached close to #10.

Some very good players, who turned pro and made the top 50 or better had worse rankings than some top college players.... very interesting!

I really don't see USC not winning the Pac10. Right now, I think the best competition comes from Stanford who could pull off an upset, but I doubt it. February 26th at Marks Stadium should be epic.

It would be hard to pick any women's team other than Stanford in the Pac-10. Florida has another shot at them in the NCAAs, but the Stanford women could go undefeated this year. Might be one of the best women's teams in NCAA history.

The season is starting, and USC has already posted 2 wins during the week-end, against Sac. St, and against St Mary's. They tested out some new recruits with good success. Stanford is also starting dual matches on Tuesday.

Who will be the best performer in the Pac 10 this season? USC, Stanford, UCLA, Cal,....?

Can the new top recruits at UCLA make a difference? How good is Kowasakowski, and where will he start in the UCLA line up?

I don't know much about Cal players, but I have my money on UCLA or Stanford over USC men team this year..and I'm feel UCLA will be the future NCAA champs in about 2 or 3 years from now .. I love seeing all the SoCal kids doing well in college tennis..

Yep, you can find some vids on youtube. Kosakowski seems to be the top recruit this year at UCLA. Big serve, OHBH and good attacking game.

Kosaw looks good! but the rest of the team looks a bit weak... they had 3 three setters at 2,3 and 4. Still good win for UCLA in the end.

1. Daniel Kosakowski (UCLA) def. Thomas Shubert (BYU) 6-2, 6-3
2. #86 Amit Inbar (UCLA) def. #110 Evan Urbina (BYU) 4-6, 7-5, 6-3
3. #64 Maxime Tabatruong (UCLA) def. Spencer Smith (BYU) 6-3, 3-6, 6-0
4. Clay Thompson (UCLA) def. Georgy Batrakov (BYU) 6-3, 1-6, 6-4
5. Alex Brigham (UCLA) def. #88 Patrick Kawka (BYU) 6-4, 6-1
6. Holden Seguso (UCLA) def. Daniel Hwang (BYU) 7-6 (7-5), 6-1

It will be interesting to see who coach Whit chooses for the match tomorrow...

Will he choose some new recruits? How good is Jamin Ball?

My picks:

1. Klahn
2. Thatcher
3. Clayton
4. Ball or Lin
5. Lin or Ball
6. Hirschman

Where does Kandath stand? Nowhere as far as I know.... Last year was a real let down.

I dont see Jamin Ball getting much playing time this year. My idea based on fall and sherwood results is that coach whit will play them as:

1-6:
Klahn
Thacher
Clayton
Lin/Hirshman
Hirshman/Lin
Kandath/Kehrer

however, whit may play clayton alittle lower based on his recent results.
