Default Most Popular Tennis Strings

I'm doing a project and I'm adding the most popular tennis strings in the string category. For example, The most popular natural gut string I would say is Babolat VS Natural Team Gut. For poly it might be RPM Blast? I know many think, like, ALU Power is better, but I'm talking the most POPULAR. That means Mantis, Topspin, etc. are MOSTLY out. Here's my list so far, feel free to add new ideas.

Nat. Gut- Babolat VS Natural Team Gut
Syn. Gut- Prince Synthetic Gut Duraflex
Multi- Wilson NXT
Poly- Luxilon Alu Power
Kelvar- Ashaway Crossfire

Any help is appreciated!

Most of my nat. gut clients prefer VS touch 16g. compared to 17g. as it is more durable.
You have the connoisseurs of strings that post on this site so answers here may not be of the norm, so if you go to a more popular gut, it maybe more the 16g.Then again, I just string in a small city, and may not be the normal, but thought that I would give my input since you ask.

Maybe TW can answer you questions on sales numbers to get a better idea.

As far as sales go, from Jan. 2011 issue of RSI magazine of the USRSA this was listed as Top selling tennis strings at speciality stores, and it is usually the same strings for the past few years that make the top 5 selling list: (The list would not fit the group here, but it is for sales numbers and since it is for sales it should fit your requirements for popularity) BTW, Since Alu power came in #4 over all types of strings, that should place it #1 for polys, as far as sales goes, which the #'s make it #1 for a Poly and it has been that way for a # of years.
These # came from TIA/Sports Marketing Surveys according to the article in RSI.

1.Prince syn. gut duraflex
2. Wilson NXT
3.Wilson Sensation
4. Lux. Alu Power
5.Prince Lightning xx
Hope this helps

These figures do not surprise me, as Prince syn. has been very popular as an all around string, Wilsons NXT is a great multi. and Sensation is a good multi for the money as it is relatively cheap cost for a good multi, so sales are good for these.I can see Lux. taking the poly category, and I know a # of the women club players like lighteningxx as it gives them more power, and that string has been in the top 5 for a few years. No surprises here.

Yeah, but Gosen isn't a big/popular brand like Prince/Babolat/Wilson/etc.

Should I just leave Nylon out? There aren't many popular Nylon strings out there

Probably so, as back in the wooden racquet days, thats all there was, but in reality syn. gut is a nylon, its just the way it is put together and marketed.

So I only have Kevlar left. I've heard a lot about Ashaway Crossfire, so should I just go with that?

Just refer to Jan.2011 issue of RSI magazine, also Jan. 2010, or 2009 for that matter. These are not my numbers, I did not do the survey, all I am doing is reporting the article and the source it came from along with who did the survey. Take it from there, as I was just attempting to help the poster out with his request, not just reporting what someone thinks sells well, but by sales figures. The article lists $ sales for preformance racquets and compared to last years sales, top selling racquets, shoes, as well as top selling strings, as the article was to help those in the buisness selling these things. The article lists Source as ( TIA/Sports Marketing Surveys )

You could consult amazon, sorted by popularity.

No, you misunderstood. I was wondering why he was going to put in something different than the Lux for his most popular poly when you had already told him the correct answer. Looks like he edited his post now to be correct.

Those Gosen reels are cheap to entice sales, but I don't think they have reps going around to all the clubs pushing and giving deals to the pro's to carry their string. The pro at our club is a Prince guy, and has been for years. The Prince rep treats him well. Consequently, he's sponsored by Prince, sells Prince and gets a lot of freebies and discounts from Prince. He's not going to buy that cheap reel of Gosen as it does him no good. Most Pro's at clubs have some kind of deal with some manufacturer.

Havent the sales on Alu Power dropped sigificantly this year? RPM Blast, Black Widow, Genesis Polys and many other third generation polyesters have been able to gain popularity that was once enjoyed by Luxilon.

Last year RPM Blast was up there instead of ALU Power in specialty store sales.
PSGD, LightningXX, Sensation, and NXT are the perennial favorites.
For poly sales at TW, I think SPPP, the Tourna strings, and TF Redcode are among the biggest sellers.
