The seeds are determined by the regular season standings. There are three 1st round matches followed by the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals. Illinois has won the Big Ten Championships tournament seven times (’99, ’00, ’02, ’03, ’04, ’05,’12)."

With the addition of Nebraska, are there 4 first round matches now, or is there a Big 10 school without mens tennis, which would be totally possible?

Ah, good catch. I guess I'm still in Big Ten (11) mode. Thanks.

They've actually won a Big Ten title before ('58 ). Wisconsin and Purdue have never won a conference title. But Iowa was pretty bad this year. 1-22 and 0-11.

Will Virginia finally take the titles next year? They are stacked!

They have a great chance. But, they've been stacked for a while, and have come up short.

I think the experience they had this year and bitter loss to USC in the finals will help them a great deal. so they will be favored to win it all next year and they will most likely do just that. but if they have injury issues going into the tournament, it could come back to bite them in the back. but keeping players healthy has not been a problem for them in the past.

but also dark horse for next year would be Stanford. They have 3 players coming in that are top 10 talents in junior 18's. they will be inexperienced but stacked with talent. so if they pull off a surprising NCAA win, they will be deserving of it.

Actually, keeping players healthy has been a very big problem at Virginia in the past, and it is way too early to project what the (healthy) lineup will be in May of 2013.

Default College Champions

Added the list of all the NCAA, ITA Indoors, All-American and ITA Summer Champions to my site. Roll your pointer over "RECORDS" on the menu list and the list will come out. Interesting to see all the names again. Check it out if you're interested.

I believe that should be "Chris Racz" in 2007.

Transfers sit out in very few NCAA sports. Everyone is familiar with football and basketball, but those are the exceptions.

Once a release is granted, a transferring student in football, basketball, men's ice hockey and baseball must sit out one year before becoming eligible at a new school. There is no one-year waiting period in other sports.

I remember a network, probably ESPN, reporting about Maryland's players being able to transfer and play right away without having to sit out a year. News like that can get people confused as to what the situation really is.

Yes, Maryland's players can transfer and play right away, but so can everyone else's players in tennis.

The only possible difference is that most conference make you sit out a year if you transfer within the conference and will now be playing against your former school. Maryland players might have gotten a special break from the ACC due to the special circumstances, just like Matt Brooklyn (#1 for Arizona State) who went inside the Pac-10 to UCLA and played immediately after Arizona State cancelled their men's tennis team.

Blake Bazarnik is changing conferences, so none of that intra-conference stuff applies to him, anyway.
