<<MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Anna Kournikova (news - web sites) is being sued by her parents, who say the 22-year-old tennis starlet has taken over the waterfront home the three jointly own. Sergei and Alla Kournikova filed the lawsuit last week in Miami-Dade Circuit Court. They want the seven-bedroom home "partitioned," meaning they want money for their share of the home. It was purchased for $5 million in 2000. Kornnikova, who has never won a tournament and is known mostly for her supermodel looks, has not played competitive tennis in more than a year because of injuries. >>
Another tale of greed... |

The article says the three jointly own the property, and a partition action is the common way to resolve disputes when one or more of the owners are at odds. You can't sue to partition unless you own a piece of the property.
Partition actions usually happen when two or more people jointly own a piece of property and they disagree on what to do with it. One of the owners petitions the court for a partition, which means the other party can buy out the petitioner's interest, or the property is sold and the cost is split among the owners. It's the only way to judicially resolve disputes among owners of a parcel of property. There has to be some remedy when co-owners disagree. They can't get divorced (unless they are married, of course). So Anna's parents are doing what typically is done in this type of situation. That's not to say they should be suing their daughter, but presumably they tried to resolve the matter out of court. But if all three of them own it, and one has taken it over, the other two are entitled to partition. It's done all the time. |

Anna must be fcked up. For all the $$ she has made over the last 8 years, why not GIVE your parents the house and buy another one for yourself if you can't get alone. It's not like you can't afford it! She owes everything to her parents for giving her the opportunity to play this sport and make tons of $$$. Her parents gave up what little they had to move to Nick's to take a chance on her tennis talent. It amazes me the greed that accompaned wealth.

There is this indelible memory from Indian Wells, '97 or '98. The old tournament site. Anna and her mother practicing. Anna's mom in pants and some kind of sandals on the court handing the kid balls from out of a carton. It was almost as if you could see the potential on the way to wasting. Yet it may have been the same year, Kournikova and Hingis playing doubles together, and the entire fan base showing up on the Grandstand Court for the tennis...and Anna's legs.
I think she had a window to change her approach, and the window closed around '01. Or she had a brief Agassi-style revival a few years back and lost to Docic in a tournament in LA or San Diego, maybe the latter. Then there were foot problems. Well, it was interesting there, now it's done. |

There are a lot of dysfunctional families in the world and, frankly, not many of us really know what is going on with the K's. Money has a way of screwing people up. Who is screwed up and who has been screwed seem to be the relevant questions.
BTW, the view is really nice from the sunroom window...see for yourself... ![]()

VTL, you're right the mom is supposed to be her best friend/moral support coach according to all those articles 3 years ago. They said she was overprotective and really looked after Anna
