I'm trying to do this, but the instructions are very brief. Not sure I follow what to do, and don't want to break them.

You weave the silencer between the strings. Then at the end, you push the circle at the end of silencer into intersection of cross and main. I usually put it on when I string my racquet. It's much easier that way.

Specifically, not quite sure if I should weave below the last cross string or above it?

I posted a picture in another thread. I'll look it up later as I have to get some sleep.

Fact: it does a fantastic job of silencing string. Better than the 20+ dampeners I've tried.
Conjecture: I feel less vibration or something leads me to believe such. Still intellectually I know that should not be the case as commercial damps are more a decoration, damp high vibrations while doing. Orion's for the damaging lo-frequency vibrations. Fact: I definitely play better (i concentrate on playing not sound the stick makes or vibrations I feel) with any damp than none. I do like certain damps over others.

When I tried one of these things, I looked around in my junk drawer and found an old set of string savers that I never used. They come with a little gizmo that lets you pry the strings apart at their intersections for installing those savers, so it's also ideal for installing this dampener.
With the rules in mind, remember to install it below the last main or outside of any of the area where the strings are interwoven. |

Rules of Tennis Specifications of Appendix II Case 3: Can vibration damping devices be placed on the strings of the racquet? If so, where can they be placed? Decision: Yes, but these devices may only be placed outside the pattern of the crossed strings. However, that placement would probably never get noticed by an official and even if it was you'd likely only be asked to move it.

But you can't move it any lower. The loops have to go at the intersection of a main and cross, so by design this dampener will always have a bit inside the woven stringbed, and thus illegal.

Kalashnikoff's granddaughter always talked about wrapping towels around the barels to make things easy.

Yes it is illegal to use in league play as it cannot be installed legally unless it's put on during stringing mains through the circle ends.

Corbind, that's brilliant. I can put the silencer on during the main and that makes it legal if anyone makes a big deal out of it.

Can you put it on one further main apart?

Sure, probably even two more mains apart. The difference will just be a tighter stretch on the dampener. I really do like them as there's nothing else out there (that I know of) that attached the same way.

I bought one and much to my surprise it just doesn't work. I have mine stretched one more string over on each side than the pic in this thread.
Very strange, but it literally does nothing. Huge Ping and vibration still there. Possible to get a bad one?? Nah...that doesn't seen possible, does it?

I already took it off. I have a Volkl Organix 10 325. Strung with Luxilon M2 Plus at 52. Put it in just like the instructions I've seen, it "looked" totally correct.
I totally agree that is doesn't make sense that it would not work. I was shocked to be honest. Which is why I questioned it being some kind of dud, but that doesn't make a lot of sense either.

Not a chance it's illegal when woven outside the last cross or main(as in the picture). The little loops would pass any test you could muster as they can't materially affect the ball.
It is important to make sure the weave is 'against' the weave of the bottom cross(correct in the picture) AND it needs to abut the bottom cross for maximum effect(that is, NOT down where the YY vibe is located). As these get harder and less 'grabby', they will be less effective at damping vibration. Also, a bit of a fine line between stretching the gizmo TOO tight and having it too loose to be effective...needs to have a little tension to snug it against the string vs just lying there. |
