Default What does the japanese guy wrong in this shot?

Go to 1:26 and watch the miss on 1:37.

Does he "scoop" the ball because of hitting the ball late or having wrong weight transfer or is it a combination of both?

He's just late all around off a good deep ball.

I forgot to post this video. Look at 3:58 and look at the miss at 4:04

It looks like he got bad balance. Does he hit late because of the balance and what should he do in that situation to not miss?

This kind of misses happens me sometimes indoors and I wonder how to improve this misses.

Thats not an easy question to answer, but just from watching that part of the video (as well as the whole thing) to me he missed because he tried a shot that wasn't really there. He hit a first serve and went crosscourt on his first forehand, got pushed a bit wide on his second forehand and tried changing the direction of the ball and went up the line and missed. He lost the match and I've seen these series of videos before, he was never really in the match to begin with so you also gotta look at the match as a whole and where the momentum was etc. To me its just a classic case of hitting a shot that isn't there because of the pressure he felt from his opponent. Sure he could of been in better position with his feet but even the way he was, crosscourt was the shot he should of hit. His expression after the shot tells all.

I laughed out loud when I read this. This is exactly what happened. That guy went after that shot, buggy-whip and all... and hit it four feet out.

I wouldn't be surprised if he made Rafa's grunting noise, too. Just for some extra oomph.

Why do we miss?
Opponent hit a ball we can't handle.
We try a shot we don't own.
Pretty girl walks behind the court and you just can't stop staring....

All I can say is solid tennis! I love the spirit it was played in. The bowing, the warmth and laughter at the end even though there was a victor and the vanquished. Nice, sporting tennis.

first video error, he over hit... maybe anxiety to end the point fast.

second, he might have been tense...

Sometimes errors have their root on emotions...

The reason he hit a reverse forehand is because it was a deep ball that forced him to use the reverse to catch up to the ball, not because he tried to copy Nadal.

his REverse forehand didn't quite reverse due to getting late on the shot.

He mishit it? He actually played the correct shot, which was to send this deep ball back crosscourt along the same incoming shot line.

Solid 4.5 hitters, not much strategy or variety, huge swings on forehands for winners, more conservative backhands, no serve to speak of, could play in 4.5 or 5.0 tourneys here and lose early rounds due to lack of variety and real all court skills.
But they would beat me in singles!
